Where on their website or portal does it state that their support channel or one of their support channels is on MyBroadband's forums...?
I don't think one of the ISPs with Rep support on MyBB (AH, CISP, Rain, etc) state that MyBB is an official support channel, and yet they are all active here :) You're telling me that being on the forum for 15 years, as well as being an active AH subscriber, you've never seen the Afrihost reps being active here, and later have a dedicated subforum ? Or are you talking about newcomers ?

Anyway, the post you quoted was about not accepting the help offered by AH on this forum, after visiting the forum to complain/request assistance. Whether this is an official support channel is immaterial. I'm not debating official AH support (or the lack thereof) , it's about accepting advice and assistance when it's given :)

@AfriNatic it appears that Afrihost network changes from last week has caused some issues. (Octotel + Afrihost)
When I setup a port forward on my local router / firewall and I try to access it remotely I get nothing, I cant telnet to it etc.
I can now see that when I check my public IP I get: 169.1.11.x but the actual IP assigned to my router is 100.99.3.x?

So now if anyone uses a service like noip or dyndns it will no longer work as the wrong address is assigned.
This can also be replicated by searching in Google for: What is my IP
It will display an address that does not match what is assigned to your router.

This is a huge issue for me as I am writing tutorials and can no longer show examples of certain setups, solutions etc.
When was this changed? why was no one notified?
This will surely have a mayor impact on a ton of people, causing outages, unexpected network issues and downtime etc.

Hi,

These are not recent changes. As most know IPv4 exhaustion is real. We are managing the IP resources we has much more stricter to make sure we can issue public IP address to the clients that really need them.

You are seeing a 100.99 IP as you are behind our carrier grade NAT (CG Nat or CGN).

We can allocate public IP addresses to those who require them on a case by case basis and I would need to ask our NOC team to get involved to assist.

I am referring to newcomers, mainly, also to defend what he was saying about not having time to go dig in a forum because of a complete lack of support via official channels. But thanks for your arrogant response.

Hi AfriNatic, thank you for the feedback.
Could you please let me know when the changes were made, as this only affected me from the 1st, well this is when I changed my IP as I was making some gateway changes.
Also if you could please point me to an announcement of the changes that was made, as this is a significant change.
I am aware of the global IPv4 availability issue's in the hosting space, but surely you should notify your clients before you make such a huge network change, as it will potentially have a massive impact on them.
How would one go about applying for a public IP?
It is critical for my day to day and I will likely be forced to move if I cant do port forwarding from time to time.

Have slow international speeds today, anyone experiencing the same? Local speedtests are working perfectly.

Might be related to some packetloss. I knwo we have switched the majority of our clients on FrogFoot in PE to the CPT eNNi so none of our clients should be going via JHB anymore.

There isn't an announcement about it. Each time a different device is mapped to a service it requires a new IP lease. So each time you map a new device the IP will change.

I will be able to get that sorted for you. If you send me your deeds via pm again I can ask NOC to assist to get the IP allocated for you.

:D No problem...can't help if you read things that's not being said or suggested. Nothing arrogant there ... Anyway, he didn't need to dig in a forum... he was already here, posting about his problem, and then not accepting the advise or assistance from people who apparently had time to dig in the forum . But let's hope he can continue to work, his daughter able to complete her exams and you getting your static IP :)

Yeah CPT eNNi has been amazing since they added the extra capacity, thanks!

My smokeping shows 0% packet loss to servers in CPT, JHB, London & the EU.

Pingplotter traceroutes looking clear packet loss wise to London

Also looking clear to New York

Did you use windows to do the speedtest? Confirmed on the speeds remain the same on android? Might be TCP Window scaling.

I know how IP's and leases work, ex Network engineer etc for many years thx lol.
I was saying that after the new IP was assigned I started having the issues.
To note many clients / people will likely lose connectivity and will not know how to sort this out, if anyone is running any type of custom firewall distro or appliance that is configured "correctly", they will block private / bogon networks on their WAN interface.
This will drop their WAN connection to you as this network range will be seen as a potential threat.
As well as per my previous posts, over and above this issue, your new LSN setup will likely also affect Smart-home setups, CCTV, remote access etc as they can no longer setup port forwards etc. They effectively lose control over their internet and network.

Will ping you now for the IP.

Static IP...I wish, likely just a dynamic public IP.

Yes correction a public IP.

That said you are likely to keep that ip until you map a new router to the account. Only Openserve clients is very dynamic in the sense that each time a pppoe session is dial the ip changes. That and LTE.

For the rest the IP remains.

How long does it take after selecting the upgrade before I should receive an email/sms about it.
I "successfully upgraded" using the promo link but haven't seen any changes or communication about the upgrade so far.

Ok got my upgrade email but seems I'm not going to stay on it after the promo period is done:

Upload speeds are great but Download haven't increase at all.
And this is using speedtest right on my ER-X CLI :X3:

Have restarted everything and retested but nothing has increased my download speeds.

Drop me a pm with your clientzone email please.

Afrihost has been solid since I joined... and now this:

Thanks for the free upgrade.

I'm probably going to get too used to this?

I had the same results initially. Logged a call and asked Afrihost whats up. They said they would log a call and ask Openserve whats up. Openserve phoned me and asked whats up. Next test showed the correct 200/100 speed. I suspect somebody just needed to reset a port or something. I'm sure they should be able to sort you out on this one.

Big storm today, lightning whacked the house and blew the CPE, its always one plug that seems to get hit.

Anyway, logged a ticket and AH passed on to vuma.

Wonder how long it takes to come out and replace...

@AfriNatic will cgnat be coming to openserve connections too?

For now it's only for our DHCP clients and Vuma Reach clients.

Not ideal in any case but something that is totally unavoidable. We do allocate public ips on a case by case basis so it's not set in stone that you will be Natted forever if you happen to be behind our CGN.
