Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread

Morning Afrihost

I've upgraded my Afrihost Aeirel fibre with Vumatel to a 1Gbps connection.

The Whatsapp support agent told me, my fibre modem cannot handle 1Gbps, and I would need to buy a new one myself, surely you guys should come in and upgrade the modem since I have upgraded my line?

Thanks

Did you take the free router incl in the deal? If not, why?

Maybe ask if they can add it now?

Initially, I signed up for a 50Mbps package, I then upgraded to 100Mbps and now to 1Gbps

The 50Mbps package came with a free fibre modem & TPLink Router

You need to get your own router then i would assume. Also - i seriously doubt you will get 1Gbps international. I think anything above 100 - 200Mbps is a waste unless you need it for local only purposes. With that said - seeing that prices between tiers are so close together these days - i guess it makes sense to take a 1Gbps link rather than the tier just below if the price difference is small enough.

Our international is full speed - so it's not any kind of shaping.

Generally routers are limited in terms of WiFi - 300Mbps on 2.4Ghz and 750Mbps on 5GHz

However, most routers will still do 1Gbps on LAN, as long as your LAN cables are Cat 5e or higher. You might need to check all your cables and switches and make sure there isn't a "weak" link in the chain.

Thanks - I'll ask AfriFella to update you on PM.

Some of those users may need to reboot their ONT devices. But our NOC will also monitor and see whether we see the performance we expect.

My line is full speed 100/100, but the Web is excruciatingly slow.

What's going on?

All looking normal on this side.

Which provider are you on? Have you run any tests I can look at?

Before you switch DNS (unless you are using custom settings) let's do some troubleshooting.

had some great help this morning from the support team, but even they found it strange that the line is maxed out but some websites are slow to load.

they logged a fault with the NOC.

here's your problem, packet loss to your router, try another cable, or wifi channel.
