No worries about the ranting, we know it can be frustrating to have these kind of issues (especially when they seem to drag on endlessly). But now we have some hope ;)

Yah I bombarded poor Kyle with trace routes yesterday, feel quite bad for that but it helped find the problem so I guess that it was worth it. I am happy that the problem has at least been found as that has been my biggest concern. Now I just have to wait for Telkom to come and sort it out which i unfortunately know will take weeks... so yah not too happy with that but that is Telkom and nothing we can do about that... bastards... lol.

Tested on an 8Mb line.

afrihost does not exceed this figure ever and MWEB starts at 6.4 (8Mb acceptable line speed) the slowa down to 4.5 over the coarse of the test

If there is intermittent congestion on the line, it would be difficult to tell from a speedtest. I think running traceroutes would give a better indication. Also, run BitMeter OS so you can see actual throughput in realtime. Just remember that it's on your localhost, so if there are other devices running on the network, it's only looking at throughput from your PC

Thumbs up here, in peak time.

The steam download just reported a burst, so disregard the 691kbps. It does average on pretty much full speed though (4mb account) - not that I leave it to download during the day in general.
Always schedule downloads for night time like a good guy Greg ;)

I'm running some tests on my side, I'm also seeing a little more latency than I'd like in KZN. Our guys have made a quick adjustment, can you please test in about 10 minutes or so?

Shaping Policy: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P

Been stuck on that for 2 weeks Afriman, 2 WEEKS. Just wanted to buy a game from steam, but
hell to do it like this, the time I get the game it's gonna be outdated.

Seriously guys, after Afrihost and Mweb where can I go?

I have set it up on a pppoe connection, disabled wifi ond connected only my PC, I would not complain if I did not do serious testing. A speedtest does not at any point measure higher than 3.6 with your account, it varies between 3.2 and 3.6, the mweb account starts at 6.4 and slow goes down to 4.5 as they realize what is happening, both your and MWEBs 1GB capped does a solid 6.4Mbps no jump or decrease in speed

You should have had some relief at some point, especially overnight. Please DM me so I can check out your history :(
 
Thanks Afriman for the reply. It's just the 2 or 3 times a day I log into clientzone I saw the same shaping, but didn't realise it constantly changes in the matter of minutes or hours. Will start my Steam Download when I get home and see how it goes.

Let it run overnight. I do that with my *cough cough* Linux distros and I always find they're all green when I wake up ;)
