I came to ask if anyone else has been experiencing the horrible shaping by Afrihost, seems I'm not the only one.
I'll be moving to Telkom Uncapped soon. I seriously can't take the shaping anymore.

That's what I did. But in Afrihost's defense - TI also shapes, but they're less transparent about when they're shaping :P Try it for a month before you make your final decision.

I still am a big Afrihost fan, and I hope to move back as soon as the capacity issues are sorted!

am I the only one who seems to get shaped 24/7

2am - 18.8% HTTP, 6.25 % p2p.

All i get told is that shaping eases after business hours but this is not the case???
Is there something wrong with my account?

I haven't been unshaped once this entire month???
What is the reason for this?

Usage is very low on my 4mb uncapped account, see below

Where are you located? I'm in the Cape Town region and haven't been shaped in almost 2 weeks. That said, my streaming services are unusable :(

Just one last comment on this thread before I am done with afrihost. Since last night my account is now completely unusable. Their call center is impossible to reach(holding 20 minutes is my limit). And answering support tickets at 1 am is a bit impractical.

Everybody must have unplugged their phone lines last night for the lightning, downloads ran pretty much at max speed I set for them :)

4 meg line,
Currently: Shaping Policy: No Shaping Applied
This month: data used : 262.53GB

I was one of those "everyone"s :D
Had two routers go with lightning!

Thank you :D

I did unplug for a while, but haven't had any "strikes" (yet).

*Touch wood!*
My second strike happened when there was no lightning even near my house.
Be careful, cos it hits somewhere else, and then travels down the line.

Guess that's what insurance is for ;)

Lightning damage isn't generally covered by insurance. I'd seriously recommend you play it safe :(

We still saw fairly normal usage over the network during the evening, but it's hard to know if that was less clients using more data. Glad you got your downloads in though :)

We do run our support centre for 24 hours a day, also because we need to compensate for times when we have a high volume of enquiries.

Especially when a client logs an urgent ticket, we'd rather call and see if we can help as soon as possible that assume our client no longer needs assistance. Especially for clients who rely on our services for their businesses or income, we'd rather apologise to a client for disturbing them than risk them being without vital support.

Huh?

I've been following this thread intently since switching to your 4Mbps Business DSL package at the end of September. As a small business owner, the service I've received from Afrihost - bar the chaps on Facebook who are great - is horrendous. I've never had luck getting through to your call centre and your live online support is a joke; requesting me to fill in a form so that I can get emailed later is not "live support."

Since yesterday morning, for example, I have been experiencing plainly terrible speeds, and certainly not worth the R897 we're coughing up every month. My partner, who is with Mweb, wants to move over to Afrihost, so that our billing is seamless, but we're both having second thoughts on whether this is the right move.

Right now, for example, I'm still waiting for some guy called Kyle from critical care to get back to me after his single pointless email yesterday lunchtime. All I can say is critical care is coming awfully close to having a patient flat-line.

Frankly, as a business client, I expected more.
