Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

This is strange, we aren't seeing any general problems with this :(
Could you PM me your info and I'll do some digging on my end.
 
Hi folks...At the moment i'm on Afrihosts 100gig CAPPED package, with no probs at all. My question is...I have an extra 2 users on different pc's connected via my router to the NET. It seems the 100Gig package might not last...so...my question is...On a 10mbps UNCAPPED account...I believe it is "semi-shaped"...can someone here tell me the "cons" of this type of package?

PS: I cant affort to go slower than...lets say 4mbps...

I am on 10 mbps uncapped, and it works very well most of the time, but, there will be shaping at some point if you plan to go way over 100 Gb.
 
I'm all for shaping to some extend, but this is ridiculous.

Please explain the figures below as my downloads is zero.

Policy: 25% Download/ 6.5% P2P

Is the shaping policy applied 24/7?

Busy cancelling as we speak. **** service for over a month. Shaping every single ****ing day. Cheers.

P.S. You can stick your mybb awards where the sun don't shine. I bet if they did the voting this month Afrihost would have been crowned worst ISP.

mmm...by the looks of the above posts...i think i'll forget about the "Uncapped" account...and stick to my normal 100Gig "Capped"-account...no problems here with capped. I'll get myself a decent Router with port-monitorring and shaping/throttling...think THIS will be my best bet...

Hi all

Just a quick heads up our network is busier than usual tonight due to the Windows 8.1 release today. We're coping with the load, but we may see shaping continue a little longer than usual :(

Downloads wont go at full speed of what your line is capable of, downloads will run at 25 % of your line sync speed.

Shaping is only applied when the network is busy, like at peak times (during working hours) for example. At like 11, 12 at night, network traffic starts to ease off and no shaping will be applied till 6 or 7 in the morning maybe later. It all depends with Afrihost's network load on such days but Afriman and Afriguy are doing the best they can do to improve things. My shaping is at 25/25 now, hope there will be less shaping in the near future :) Hope that helps

I'm really sorry that we've let you down :(
I don't think it's fair mentioning the award though - it was given to us as an overall best ISP of the year as opposed to month. Seeing Gian and AfriMan also walk away with awards shows we are doing something right. Again, we don't like the shaping just as much as you - improvements are on their way.
 
After 2 days of almost acceptable service - I think I saw downloads shaped to 25% for a while once during daytime hours, which is excusable at a push - we're now back to the new normal: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P... at 19:30.

Oh, joy.

Hi Dude, I am semi content with what is going on until a solutions is found to return us to the way things were before. But he is right if that poll about the best ISP was to be hold now I doubt the results would have been flattering.
 
Are Windows updates supposed to be shaped too? Downloading the 8.1 update through the app store at 30KB/s on my 10Mb line :(

That I can somewhat agree with, but the award we received hasn't been the case, it was for the year. I fully admit that we haven't been the greatest recently - but again, our guys are working almost night and day to come to a full resolution on this.

I do not think so at all. After being told by a rep on the phone last month " i don't know what's wrong, just buy the business account". After over a month of being shaped every day. I think it's fair.

Would it be OK if I paid for 10 months instead of 12? I mean, I'm obviously doing something right... Once again, had the votes been held later, they wouldn't have won :)

I'm also very frustrated with how much I'm being shaped, i hope things do get better in the near future and that network improvements come into place.
