Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Also... I am not a fan of this new shaping policy. I've done less than 9GB (nine) this month. But get 3/4 speed. I know it's adjusted and whatnot, but somehow that doesn't seem fair... :wtf:

Since I cannot get 10Mb ADSL in my area (stupid Telkom). What's the equivalent 4Mb business uncapped adsl package?

We're sorry that we don't have much information on what's happening with EASSy. As you can imagine, this is a complex repair, requiring major engineering and resources, and all we know at this stage is that it is currently underway.

We are currently running on a restoral path that is providing the full throughput capacity as normal. So traffic routing is as per normal. We have however noticed a latency introduced on EASSy which we are working with MTN to bring down. For the most part, most clients are still getting acceptable latencies for gaming and real time services, but we are aware of the issue and everything possible is being done to sort this out.

As soon as we have ANY info or ETR on the full cable restoration, we will post more info on the website and here.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves; international speeds are still fairly sucky:

I suspect that will remain the case until EASSy is fully restored.

speeds are sharp sharp mieliepap, latency could use a 40-50ms trim off the top.

Hi guys

I just wanted to find out how is Afrihost's uncapped throttling like these days? It use to be horrible and unusable... My dad got a live tv thing from Asia and wants to stream on his asian TV content during the day and night. Any comments? thanks!

We don't throttle speeds since we moved networks. We can shape uncapped traffic in times of high demand, so that streaming and other real time services get preference over downloads and file sharing. So there should be no issues streaming content.

Just a caveat is some streaming services don't use "regular" streaming protocols,these tend to use some form of realtime p2p/file download and stream which tends to be affected by the shaper

Couple Q's

1. does shaping end at a specific time of day, such as 5pm? Or is dynamic shaping always applied?

2. if I am on a 10mbps account, is my shaped throughput higher than a, say, 4mbit user? or will we both get 30kBps?
 
Hi....nooo noooo me not so happy. hmmm, I seem to be getting stuck on an average of 20kbps download since this morning. plus ive been getting auth errors constantly. have to restart my router 10 times a day now i just keep it on 24 /7 from now on but yeah. ive been signed up for 2 weeks. and im not impressed. i used to think afrishost was the best provider for a long time. IDk change my mind for me?

That sounds, from what I can decipher, more like an issue with your physical line than anything else...
 
Hi, Anyone having auth problems at this moment?

even though my account settings is not right its reporting invalid password?
