Thanks... Can't Afrihost significantly increase the speed of the news server, limit it to Afrihost customers and add it to the shaping system? As oppose to just making it slow for everyone.

er ..... my understanding is, it is in The Netherlands therefore I suspect it is a "procured" service.

I doubt they will do this on the request of one customer? :)

Read again. If your exchange supports 2+, and you're still on a G.DMT port, ask them to upgrade you...

What exactly does this process entail? A technician would have to be sent out, right? (Sorry, noob over here)

I don't understand what these people on the leaderboard download, how can you do 1.5TB in a month?

Data Used: 203.09 GB
Average Daily Usage: 12.69 GB

Me, the wife and the daughter on Netflix, havent downloaded a single thing this month. :)

Afriman please dont make my connection slower because of this post. :P

We use a 3rd party service, which we subscribe to, so we are not in direct control of speeds and capacity. However, NNTP traffic is shaped, depending on whether you're using a Capped, Uncapped, or Business DSL account to access the service. Anyone on Afrihost ADSL can acccess the service free of charge.

Thanks. I'm on business, and torrents do work well. I only use usenet for more obscure stuff.

I don't suppose you have an Android phone? The speeds I get on the Play Store are atrocious. Not sure if it's a Google issue... I tried the latest version of the store for a day (it's horrible) but speeds didn't increase. Downloading large games is almost impossible.

Same here. It might be that the play store itself is throttling traffic, so as to ensure a fair service to all android fanboys... So far I'm able to update and install stuff from the android store, even if sometimes a bit slow...

My Maths is shocking but .......One is allowed 5 concurrent connections with Afrihost. That can be 5 phone lines, times the gigs line speed, times 24 hours times 30 days? :-)

No, you get one concurrent connection. Capped accounts may be 5 connections.

If uncapped allowed 5, the highest usages would be extreme.

On uncapped, you generally only get one concurrent connection. You get 10 on capped.

After a fair bit of research, I finally got my NetFlix up and running using UnoTelly. Awesome little service btw!

All this aside, @Afriman - The video quality on Netflix is pretty appalling on my 4Mb Uncapped currently. Any idea why this might be? Youtube, etc all stream without issue.

Anyone else struggling to connect at the moment? I'm getting packet loss, high local latency and a jump in a trace route from 26ms to 233ms between two Cape Town MTN hops.

What are you streaming Netflix through, and have you watched more than 30 seconds of anything? Netflix adjusts video quality dynamically, and it always starts out looking crap.

Yeh, you need to give it time to adjust. I have only had issues with Hulu, when the HD ads come on, the show plays fine, but the add lags like a mother...

Havent tried it since I switched to 10 Mbps though...which, was actually initially for streaming.
