Yep i have logged a call with Telkom so hears at hoping they fix the probs.Helderberg Collage area.

So if I am reading correctly, Business Uncapped accounts have no rolling windows and should never be throttled? only shaped if needed?

At present, that is our intention, and how we are currently managing the product. It was initially launched with rolling windows, but I'm fairly confident that those are falling away. As far as we can, we will try to keep Business Unshaped at all times.

Business and normal don't have ROLLING throttles ............. if the network gets busy then normal capped is shaped (LIKE NOW)

I should not have opened my mouth earlier ............. :-) Funny how these things happen..............

I do not have a business account so I can't speak for that account. I have a normal account as back-up and the normal uncapped 2Mbps

I think you mean Normal Uncapped is shaped - we never shape Capped accounts - EVER! ;)

Nice! :D I think Gian did the right thing in moving Afrihost over to the MTN network. All the growing pains paid off...

Tell us, you can pick and choose what to watch (on-demand) rather than waiting for the next program to come up?

Ja, I think they were cool in looking to make their internet experience better. I'm looking forward to what they come up with next, not just with the uncapped either. I am thinking of dropping to a 100GB capped account, and upgrading to a 20mb line. I checked the usage from the weekend with Netflix running the whole time, and it was less than a normal weekend with the same amount of movies over torrents. Anyway, the point being I wouldn't be able to afford this if it wasn't for Afrihost and their constant price drops - and its still a quality experience (Most of the time anyway)

Netflix has ALOT of movies, thousands, and you can choose when to watch it, you can add it to a Que, and based on what you have watched, it recommends things you will like. Hulu has alot of TV shows, not the very latest, but its got everything you can think of, NatGeo Wild, Mythbusters, South Park, Big Bang Theory, History Channel Shows, like Vikings (Which is awesome if you havnt seen it yet). Then you get free stuff too, like BBC iPlayer. The only thing it lacks is sport. But that doesn't really bother me, as I'm not a sport fan.

Its great, and its just less than R200 a month for Netflix, Hulu, and Unotelly. You can set them up on a computer, tablet, Smart TV, media player, whatever has an internet connection. I would recommend an Apple TV, I am thoroughly impressed, and it was R1200, which is pretty much in line with most of the other half decent media centres out there.

Man, I am glad that I am not the only person in Somerset West affected by these slow download speeds - I feel with you Zertop.

I upgraded to the 10Mb line on Saturday evening and not even an hour later my speed dropped from 3.99 to 0.5Mb/s -.

I have logged faults with both Telkom and Afrihost, but still waiting for a response. I just cannot wait to drop DSTV forever and use Netflix from now onwards.

Afriman, when can we expect static IP addresses??

Would love to move but it is the only thing holding me back now, a bonded service would also be great!! :D

Hi Afriman

I'm having massive packet loss on League of Legends tonight. Latency up and down and delays of up to 5 seconds in game.
You say that the network is running on a backup support but this is what i get to international sites.

Test conducted on 22 April 2013 08:15:27 PM

Download Speed: 507 kbps (63.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 484 kbps (60.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 219 ms

Local:

Although the ping looks great I don't get lower than 300ms in game.

Your tech team said it was my line and i have to disagree because local is fine.

I advise everyone to report faults to telkom as stated above. The more reports, the Greator the urgency.

Don't Worry!! You will get your full 10Meg Speeds as soon as telkom gets their act together. This is not afrihost, so don't think about afrihost in a bad light. This is telkom. Think of them what you will

Something wrong with your router setup! you should never ever see such high pings on the first hop, nor should you have two Private IP address showing up in your trace route which shows a double NAT (unless you know what you are doing, and have DMZ setup correctly)

But it looks as if there is congestion on your exchange........
