Hi,
Im moving from Mwb for obvious reasons - they have screwed loyal customers over - and have choices to make.
Im currently on a 1Mb Telkom line(R150 dsl + R170 for voice) with mwb as my isp @ R199 = R560 p/m incl vat

Ive read that IS(Afrihost) should be better in Jhb, where I currently reside.

Is naked dsl possible yet? I want to drop the Telkom voice as I do not use it. Afaik u cant!

TELKOM : R329 for 1mb uncapped OR R523 with Voice / R653 for 2Mb with voice

Afrihost : R197 for 1mb uncapped OR R297 for 2Mb uncapped ... I like the top downloaders list, gives me hope :)

Openweb : R289 for 1mb Gold Orange Or R349 for 2mb [What is Gold Orange? ]

Im not fazed at being at 1mb, although I do yearn for faster download speeds which is why ive looked at 2mb options.

1. Would moving from 1mb to 2mb with Telkom take long or is it just a phone call or walk-in to soft switch up which takes minutes, or an hour or two?
2. What ISP would you recommend to someone living in Jhb South (Alberton) area?
3. Who would be fastest to move to - like today or worst case, this week (given holiday tomorrow)
Thanks for any help/advice in advance.
Cheers and enjoy the holiday tomorrow

Telkom complete price (1mbs+uncapped+voice) with discounts is R386.45 incl VAT

1. They claim 48hrs but it's a fw hrs at most. why upgrade now, wai till november and you will get a free upgrade to 2mb/s

Thanks guys. Sticking with 1mb. Im already online in 15- 20 minutes with afrihost. A little slow only due to my large hands on this mobile device. This can be done in 3 minutes or less. Bye bye MdWeebs

AFRIHOST FTW

** Will post my speeds experience with them in time - im sure mw & others can sign you up just as fast **

Hi there

Thanks for posting this thread, always great to see how we rate against competition.

Firstly, just want to mentioned that we're not on the IS network for our DSL or Mobile Data - we run on the MTN network, which is a lot more expansive and offers a whole lot more in terms of capacity and redundancy.

You've got our data only packages, but remember that we also offer a lot of additional value if you let us manage your ADSL line as well. Our unshaped Business packages are also very attractive :)

Drop me a PM anytime if you have some questions :)

Thanks for the reply and clarification regarding the IS/MTN move. As long as I get good service, then will rate the company. mweb did give good service and then things started slipping in customer service and worse essentially cut off service without any sort of courtesy communication. I will post my thoughts on the larger picture in a separate thread. If Afrihost also slips in its service to me, then I shall move on. Thats is the nature of business in this century, the customer needs the best value for money and given the plethora of service providers, we win. its not about being fickle - its about not taking cr@polla anymore.

I think it's all up to the individual. Service and support are a cornerstone of our brand and it's something we try to bring out in everything we do. While we can't always control the technical details - components fail, the unexpected happens - we can always offer a high level of communication and service to our clients. For some, that is more important than price or even product.

However, our aim is not to just excel in one area, we want to have the best products, the best value and client service that stands out not just for an ISP - but for any company that our clients interact with :)
