Bear with me as I maf here:

I placed an order on Amazon.com, and an authorization hold for the total amount was placed on my credit card. A few days later, Amazon split the order into multiple shipments and processed each transaction individually. While these individual payments have cleared, the original large hold remains 'uncleared' after two weeks, which is reducing my available credit limit. The totals do not match exactly, likely due to exchange rate fluctuations on the dates the transactions were processed.

Does anyone know how long it usually takes for this initial hold to be removed (Absa), given that the actual payments have already been settled?

Alternatively, I have to phone Absa. Yuck. And explain why the totals don't match but the transactions have been completed.

I hate to say this, but I received stellar service when visiting a branch instead of phoning. As this is a credit card transaction, I don't know if my advice would help at all.

The same has happened to me with my Woolworths Credit Card (Absa). Pending transactions unfortunately take a whole month to fall away.

So our branch is basically a call centre. They need to phone as well for everything. They even call the same numbers and wait in the same queue.

Could probably take up to a month. I hope not.

But now what if I place a bigger order on amazon? My credit limit is not very big. But that restricts my order as I need to have double the order amount available it seems.
A workaround next time would be to purchase Amazon Store Credit before checking out, and then using that store credit balance towards the order. Problem is that it cannot be refunded to your credit card in-case you decide to return something.

Or use a different credit card - Discovery Bank, for example, falls away after a week.

I guess I should also consider increasing the credit limit. Absa has been begging me for 10 years now.
