So today, I buy an HP notebook where the spec sheet claims 15.4" BrightView display. I open the box to see that it has a matte-display. I tell the guy who sold it to me, because honestly, he should sort it out. He says that the spec sheet says it has BrightView, not CrystalView, that's why it's a matte screen. I proceeded to explain the difference, but he wanted to hear nothing of it.

Where do I stand? I want my money back, or the notebook with a BrightView screen. AFAIK, BrightView screen doesn't cost more anyway

I can't believe salespeople don't know the difference!

Dam man that really sux! I would fight it, surely he can swop it out for the one you want? I am sure his supplier will swop it within the 7 day period….I would be very bleak spending money like that on something you didn’t really want. Best of luck

Yup, I'm pretty bleak. As it is, I was compromising. There's no way I'll compromise on the screen. I'm too used to glossy screens.

The worst part is that the consultant said "I'll call you back in 2mins" and then they closed and he didn't reply to my emails or calls. How's THAT for service.

Mind if I ask where you bought it from and whether or not there's some sort of manager or something to complain to? Better you get it sorted fast than later and have them find new reasons to deny you your replacement/refund...

Where did you buy it? At Incredible Corruption you can give it back within 7 days, no questions asked. Other places.... yeah well other places are not all into returns.

I would say you have a strong case, if I was in your shoes I wouldn’t settle until I have the one you originally wanted.

Edit: And Imho any screen that is ..View IE: brightview, crystalview etc is supposed to be NON matt....Otherwise that is just misleading.

Comstar in Midrand (next to Sahara). I've been buying there on and off for a while, no issues whatsoever.

I spoke to the salesman who didn't know at all what was going on (he said that BrightView is not a glossy screen, Crystal View is. Little does he know that BrightView and Crystal View are just proprietary names for the same thing from HP and Fujitsu Siemens respectively). When I explained to him the difference, he admitted he didn't know what he was doing and proceeded to direct me to the guy in the "purchasing department". I was told they'd call me back in 2mins. 5mins later I called (it was nearing 5pm), and was told once again they'd get back to me before closing. 4:55pm I called, their switchboard diverted me to "call back tomorrow". I mailed the salesman, he again re-iterated that it was BrightView, not Crystal View. Irritating...

Hopefully this will get sorted out tomorrow. I'd really rather not have to sit with a matte screen :-/

If only you knew. Originally I was QUOTED a certain price for a certain notebook. It was an insanely good deal. I ordered two (hehe). Just as I was leaving, he called to say they had the wrong pricing etc. I wasn't in the mood to cause issues, so I just accepted that I wasn't getting that notebook for that price, so I got him to make me a better deal with another notebook.

So I didn't even get the original notebook I wanted, but I got the same model with different specs at a price I was happy to pay

Probably the worst part is that I have this brand spanking new notebook sitting next to me, and I can't play with it, because I'm worried that if I complete the setup, they'll say they won't replace it :(

Ouch... Holding thumbs for you, sn3rd... I hear that when push comes to shove, throwing a royal hissyfit tends to make things happen. They'd rather solve things quietly than have their public relations drop ;)

When being nice fails you... :)

Thanks. I'll let you all know what happens.

I'm good with hissy fits... How do you think I got the "better deal" in the first place :p

Out of interest. Anyone dealt with axiz? I'm pretty sure this notebook is sourced through them. On their website, they have a product list, where they list this notebook in a table with ticks indicating what is available on it, etc. According to that option, the notebook isn't even available without a glossy screen

When you email them again add a link to this thread. That might help.

If all else fails, Hellopeter is your friend

True... But who exactly would I hellopeter?? Comstar doesn't respond, and that leaves HP and Axiz. I suppose they wouldn't want their name dragged through the mud, but still. Maybe they'll be able to make a plan for me, considering the notebook HAS NOT BEEN USED!!??

I really hope so. I'm getting more and more bummed by the minute :(

Firstly don't stress, seriously I am pretty sure you will be able to sort it out....And if not, a big if, then there is always the small claims court :D

No seriously, If you make enough of a stink of hellopete, someone will come to the party I am sure.

I really hope so. At the end of the day, a big thing in my favour is that it's still brand stinkin' new.

And as I say, there isn't supposed to be a price difference between glossy and matte, so it shouldn't make any difference to them. Don't know why they even have matte: don't know any people IRL that prefer matte over glossy for notebooks

Unfortunately I'm a bit of a worry wart. Hopefully this doesn't put me a good couple grand out :(

I do know of a few people that prefer matte, Fudge knows why, personally I think they look outdated and old.

I am the same, but I really don't think they can refuse to swap it out...

I guess there always have to be exceptions :p
*waits for the rest of the pro-matte MyBB gang to come and flame me*

Well I guess there's nothing I can do tonight anyway... Bah. Still sucks

So I've spoken to axiz, and they have confirmed that it is an option.

I also spoke to the people at the place where I bought it (spoke to someone else this time), and they said they'd get back to me within the hour. Hopefully it goes according to plan.

Ya see told you nothing to worry about :p
