Article: Motorist arrested for R200 bribe

A.Beer.Won't.Kill.Anyone.

It won't send you 4 times over the limit.
It won't make you unconcious.
It won't give you alcohol poisoning
It won't alter your mind entirely.

Sorry, I thought you said you had 4 whiskeys?

It's useless trying to argue that alcohol won't impair your judgement. There's a reason airline pilots don't drink for 24 hours before flying. Your only recourse is to say, 'Well, I'm not an airline pilot so I don't need to be as responsible, therefore I can drink.'

That's true enough. But whether you're a pilot or a pedestrian, your judgment will still be impaired. And if you are involved in any kind of accident on your way home, your life will be completely turned upside down forever. That's just a fact.

U are comparing driving to playing gran turismo?

Off topic - a mediocre game for the delays ....

I took my own car after hearing the 'detail on the cars is amazing' and the wing mirrors are the wrong colour, the speedo is the wrong colour, there's no badge on the grill on the track, the console is the wrong colour ... thought after all the hype and delays, they'd at least get that right ... ;)

u must have had a beer before playing, and therefore ur brain completely had a malfunction meltdown and you missed all these details

Do you drink?

You have massive, incorrect ideas about alcohol and quantites

I do have the odd beer, but no I don't drink heavily. Look I probably am sounding like a nut but there is a reason for it. I apologize to all if I'm offending everyone. I don't drink for a reason that is personal, but it really gets my goat when people try to justify there drinking and deciding to drive for the same reason.

I had 4 over 4 hours - yes.

That comment was countering the perseption that a beer knocks you on the floor ...

That's true enough. But whether you're a pilot or a pedestrian, your judgment will still be impaired. And if you are involved in any kind of accident on your way home, your life will be completely turned upside down forever. That's just a fact.

You're right - I'm not condoning.

I initially started this with 'I'd rather pay than spend months in court proving my innocense and wrongful arrest' It's as simple as that.

Fair enough.

I think you have the wrong idea of what a certain amount of alcohol does to you - that's all.

4 whiskeys in 4 hours!!! I agree there is a slight impairment, however, it is unlikely its over the limit or going to cause a supreme meltdown in the body.
Not worth the risk of maybe being over i agree though

... I actually passed out before the bottle was finished :/

I was once pulled over with a metro cop drawing his gun out, I didn't go over the speed limit, so he searched the entire car, eventually I asked him if he was aware that he may not pull his gun out on me, he wanted me to bribe him, eventually after he realized I had no money with me he let me go. While I don't condone bribing at all, sometimes motorists don't have a choice.

no one is justifying drinking and driving. I think you are letting ur personal issue cloud what you are reading.
As dolby states, you have an incorrect perception of how much alcohol affects people. Especially over periods of time.

The factors that influence are vast...

Careful, you are going to be told that you don't know what you are talking about.:D

How can some of you think of that a whiskey and water over many hours is enough to make you drunk .... ?

How much alcohol % is there in a whiskey that is diluted with water?

- 1 beer (4.5% alcohol) over 1 hour will result in an approximate blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.0225 %.

- 4 beers (4.5% alcohol) over 4 hours will give you a BAC well above 0.05%.

- Approximately 0.015% of BAC is metabolized by the body every hour if you stop drinking. Drinking water after wards has little impact on rate of metabolism.

- Alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream and the liver is responsible for elimination of 95% alcohol. Drinking enough water can help the kidneys clean your blood more effectively and inhibit dehydration.

As I said, studies have shown that impairment begins from the first drink. I'm not saying people should not drink only that they should stop being selfish and think that alcohol does not effect them then get behind the wheel and take other peoples lives in there hands. Hell, I like to have the odd beer now and then, I don't care if it does or doesn't make me drunk, I'm not going to get behind the wheel after having a few beers, period.

I would like for you to point us to these so called studies you are talking about, probably just heard it somewhere and now it's your view point with no real proof. Don't make statements and not have the proof to back it up, that is all I'm saing...

That's for the calculations ... they're all online as well showing borderline.

n00b, unless it was a Black label...in which case much respect

Uh, u dont...

Yeah, i asked for this as well....I got ignored.
Its awesome easy to make these statements about some "guys" and "studies" to back ur argument.

That is just down right intimidation. Bastard should not be a cop. MFer should be given a short sharp kick to the curb, not a bribe.

Sorry, didn't see your post asking for info. It was on TV. One of these arrive alive things.

Well, that's the point. It doesn't have to. Drunk driving accidents don't just happen because someone falls asleep at the wheel or can't see straight. They happen because of normal everyday things which, in a completely sober state, you would be perfectly capable of handling without any trouble.

You may feel that you're sober enough to drive home slowly and safely. But what if something happens on the road while you're driving? What if someone skips a red light or forgets to indicate or brakes for a (drunk) pedestrian?

It happened to friends of mine a while back. They were driving home and two completely plastered drunks emerged from the bushes at the side of the road and tried to cross it. My friends had no chance to stop so they just ploughed into these two guys. Both ended up in hospital. And if my friends had been drinking, they would have been held responsible. Simple as that.

Rules are there so that you think before you break them. If you want to break a rule, you need to have thought of ALL the implications that breaking that rule will entail: including the fact that 'I'm a super-macho alcohol metabolising machine!' is not going to stand up in court.
