ATI 5850 with Intel Q9550

Something funky is going on here. All I can think is your ddr2 ram might be holding it up - but really I'm baffled.

Ahh my 850w is installed now :D What a beauty.

This ongoing saga is quite entertaining.

Im glad its entertaining... my bank account doesnt think so!

this is gonna set me back! I seriously cant afford the i7 right now, and those mobo's are very expensive... So Im going back to AMD.

Potential build

Amd socket AM3 ( AM2/AM2+ backward compatiable ) Phenom2 x4 , Quad-core 965 ( 3.4Ghz ) Black edition , unlocked clock multiplier ; 4 x 128k L1 + 2mb - 4x 512k L2 + 1x shared 6mb L3 ; 45nm , 125/140w , 4000mhz HT3.0 HT3.0 , with PVT - box cpu ( with fan )

Asus M4A79XTD Evo , support hypertransport 3.0 , PCi-E2.0 crossfire-X ; for AM3 only , with EPU , AMD 790x/sb750 chipset , 4 x dual channel DDR3-1800(O.C)/1600 , 8 ( 7 internal+ 1 external e-sata ) s-ata2 with raid 0/1/0+1/5/10 , 1 x parallel ata133 , on-board ieee1394 + via1708s 7.1 audio with optical s/pdif out + gigabit lan ; 2x pci-e (1x) , 2x pci-e 2.0 ( 8x+8x ) , 2 x pci, with EPU4 + express gate + anti-surge protection + Turbo key + Turbo-V + 8+2 phase Power - atx

After chatting with Brawler alast night, seems the low latency RAM isnt really worth it, but they dont have stock of value select right now... so I MIGHT go with the following RAM, just trying to convince my father to "sponsor" me the RAM

Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C7 , XMS 3 , with heatsink , 2 x 2Gb/2048mb kit - support Intel XMP ( eXtreme Memory Profiles ) , ddr3-1600 ( PC3-12800 ) , CL7 , 1.65v - 240pin - lifetime warranty

thoughts please?

After reading Brawler's post, I still cant believe some of the weird **** we encountered going on last night... :wtf:

well DDR5 on the gfx card and DDR2 in my mobo... who knows!? :(

So that means my stuff is up for grabs... WHY someone would buy it Im not sure. Im sure as hell that no one on here is going to buy it! lol

Asus P5N-D
Intel Q9550
Corsair 4 x 2GB DDR800 4-4-4-12

So how much would I be able to flog all of this for?

I can get you Hynix DDR3 if you like for quite cheap. I am going out there shortly.

Hope it comes right for you HTC. :)

@everyone, how much real world difference is their between DDR3 cl9, cl7 and cl6?

Also is ddr 3 worth it?

Man...i can't help but feel that it's something else going on that you might be able to fix. Those numbers just don't add up.

Jak3 ddr3 is worth it yes - how much depends on your particular setup. What chipset you going with?

seems nothing is ever simple.... From what I have read, most motherboard companies have abandoned the 790x chipset.. most are using the gx (for single card) and the fx for better multi card performance. Now I know why this board is cheaper...

Cant find a gx board anywhere, so looks like I will have to up the ante to a fx

damn it

Did you swap the PSUs?

no we didnt. I check on the website and it says 500 Min for my card. I have a 520W Corsair, should be MORE than enough.

Im not experiencing any other PSU symptoms though. I was playing batman for ages and no crashes, hangs, blue screens, nothing..

So how on earth could it be the PSU?

I even unplugged all the sextra hdd's and fans and ran the benchmarks.. still the same.

quick question, in the following description for this motherboard...

4 x dual channel DDR3-1600(O.C)/1333

Does that mean I should buy 1600 RAM and it will run stable? If should I rather get 1333?
