BEWARE International Data Roaming charges!!!

Please, allow me:

I - When roaming:

i - Make sure you know what you are going to pay
ii - Don't blame Vodacom for those prices, because:

1 - It's not Vodacom's fault you are roaming
2 - Vodacom has to make you sign a document to tell you:

a - IT IS EXPENSIVE
b - WE WOULD RATHER YOU DON'T DO IT

iii - AVOID ALL THE ABOVE AND BUY A LOCAL PREPAID SIM

Now close thread and let the dumb one's suffer. Easy.
 
The problem here is that Vodacom/MTN/Cell C should issue some kind of warning that you are now roaming and roaming charges apply. Seems like it is not happening. My friend who is on holiday in SA from Dublin says his network warned him about it.

Normally when you enter a new network you do get a nice welcome message from them. ;)

Sorry meant its not uniquely South African.

The European Union is working on legislation to cap roaming charges for both Data and SMSs. I read a recent report where Data contributed globally towards 25% of the mobile industrys revenue.

25% sounds high at this point in time.

SA (VC / MTN) are far from these numbers and I fully expect us to be higher than the rest of the world. My guesstimate would be slightly under 10%.
 
MY R35000.00 roaming bill

Please can anyone offer some advice or help on this matter. I have just received a bill for R35000.00 This was for 240mb priced at 135.17 per mb.. When i checked the site i saw the price of 17.50 per mb.. AFter further inspection mauritius is not included on that list. I do not have R35000.00 to pay. Secondly i cannot understand how Vodacom can let the price get to that much without even giving a call to enquire whether the card had been stolen etc.. the usual bill is around R1000.00... I am pulling my hair out... Can anyone offer some insight pls ?

Surely there had to be a limit on there? And y the hell is mauritius so expensive?

you should nail them under the fais act... ask any banker what its about... they dont have proof that you will be able to pay that, and because they are issuing credit cards now they are labelled a financial institution and their sales ppl should be FAIS representatives... so they should not extend your credit so far if they dont have proof that you can pay it...
 
The irony is.. that the internet is often cheaper in mauritius than here.
 
How people still use roaming after all the warnings on this scam, eludes me..
