Cell C fixed LTE data throughput experience

Lol I am definitely liking that. I have had 3 days of blissful internet experience with just a Telkom prepaid sim... I am actually just going to load data every month.... It works out cheaper and I get better speeds
I'm going to go with Telkom then if that's the case I'm just waiting for this month's debit to go off and then its bye bye Afriscum and Cell C

Definitely man, I can't believe that Cell C and Afriscum don't take their clients seriously

And there's been how many complaints about this issue and its not isolated incidents that's occurring. So tonight's speeds and pings:

What really irks me is that every single speedtest that I conducted showed that the upload speed is higher than the download speed which does not make any sense. Some kind of throttling is definitely taking place on this network or the fibre backhaul of the tower I'm connected to is messed up

by looking at those traces routes it seems that somehow it's on an afrihost apn using the cellc network, could be the nni of the apn toward afrihost could also be congested.. might be worthwhile checking this out

That's what I'm thinking now, it goes through Cell C's network fine at first, then as soon as it hits the Afrihost APN it gets slow. I think you're right on saying that it might be congested on Afrihost's side

Come home to no service and my roommate says it's been down a while already.

Hi bheinche,

I think it's most certainly congested hence the reason for the higher upload speeds because the downloads is congested.

So the Telkom prepaid solution is working for you and much cheaper than the Cell C LTE?

Hi Sham, I haven't bought a prepaid sim just yet. I am waiting for the debit order for this month to go off, then I'm cancelling this excuse for broadband internet. I have been with telkom before on their LTE product a year ago but my contract ended and I didn't renew. I am itching to go back to them as I had a trouble free experience with them and the speeds were nothing short of amazing. I had a average download speed of 22mbps when I had their LTE offering.

EDIT: @Shamiel_1 how is the data prices on the prepaid sim? As I use between 75-90 GB per month.

Hi bheinche,

The problem i'm facing at the moment is i'm waiting for Fibre to be laid in my area which will be next year sometime... and therefore wouldn't want to sign-up for a contract. I do want to get me a Telkom sim and see how it goes might not be the cheaper solution but hopefully better speeds!

Trust me they do have better speeds, much better than the rest. I have fibre in my area, the only problem is that I live in the complex and trenching would require approval from the Body Corporate and endless meetings which I have no energy for. I'll sign up for a month to month on telkom and see how it goes from there. I cannot stress about constant low speeds and @Cell_C carelessness about their clients. I should be getting great speeds being just 600m from the transmitter but alas I am stuck with dailup speeds. I'll let everyone here know how it goes with Telkom once I sign up with it.

Will do, if their speeds are better then I would recommend all Cell C subscribers to cancel and move to a better network as speeds as atrocious as this does not have a place in 2018.....2008 perhaps but not in this year

lol!! Maybe we should go in partnership with Telkom and sell attractive low cost deals on their behalf :-) they will get so much clients at this point in time.

Hahaha true that, and plus we keep the network up to date so we don't experience the issues we have with Cell C

Yeah. I think theres to much effort to prove to a company whos staff wont listen that theres a problem with their product. Ill just cancel this month end and go with another provider. Much easier than wasting our time with Cell C's LTE.

True that, what amazes me is that Afrihost is not saying anything on this matter and I'm sure they can see the thread on mybroadband..... Yet we as the consumers needs to pay and fight the batlle all by ourselves, yet they are supposedly to manage our accounts on our behalf.
