Cell C Network Issues: Disconnects, Coverage, Throughput Problems - Report Here

Location: Parys Free State
Time of issue: 2 Months
Device Huawei-1C33
Tested everything except cellC. Nothing wrong on this side as far as I know!

Was brilliant in the beginning, six months ago. Now I can't even open Gmail. Some days reception is off completely. I am writing this using my phone's hotspot.

Hi there

Please PM us the number in question and your residential address.

Location: KIMBERLEY
Time of issue: ALL THE TIME
Device: POCO X3 USB and Wifi thethered doesn't matter
Contract Type (pre- or post-paid): Prepaid
Existing reference numbers from Helpdesk:
www.speedtest.net results (if possible): Useless, test with Startrinity Constant Speed Test shows intermittent issues with upload jitter
Any other information relevant to the problem: Never had problems with exact same setup. Now Warzone servers disconnect and traceroute and ping tests show intermittent jitter on upload. This has been reported on Twitter two weeks ago.

The attached traceroute shows the latency spikes after closing all apps on pc and phone and restricting background data so that it's just the theather but still high ping spikes.

Also tested with Startrinity Constant Speed Test and the problem is on upload jitter and latency. It goes up so high that any application including Call of Duty Warzone disconnects from their server.

Like I said this was never a problem until now.

This is a StarTrinity CST test while playing Warzone. Now imagine the rubber banding in game. What's causing this. Background data restricted. No apps using the internet open. Only Warzone and Ping Test. If I try to stream I would crash. And I could stream before.

Here is the same test with a standalone usb modem and the results are similar problem with jitter on upload and low bandwidth on upload in general.

Cell C (MTN?) page loading slow at the moment ; for the last hour, really.

Also router hovering between 2 to 4 bars all the time.

Will post a link to speedtest momentarily, but want to first get message out using Telkom LTE connection.

Don't necessarily blame Cell C ; probably power outage related, though we aren't affected directly today.
The suburb over was off a few hours ago, so must be due to connecting to the same tower is the reason.

This is brilliant !
Ping more than double what it usually is & speeds way down again :

ISP: Cell C
Ping: 100ms
Download: 1.14Mbps
Upload: 0.84Mbps

Being routed to JHB no help either.

Got a funny issue here.

Youtube tend to buffer. a. lot. and it is starting to irritate me now.

But other websites streaming non-youtube media does not exhibit the same issues. The work just fine and dandy, except for youtube.

What can the issue be?

I'm having the issue where GOG images take ages to load during the day but at night everything is fine.

Having terrible experience last few days around Southern Suburbs /Newlands /Constantia Cape Town.

Most of the time only showing EDGE and going nowhere... Other times shows 4G and still cannot get enough connection to WhatsApp or Google something! Occasionally at different places it must connect -- e.g. WhatsApp messages sending and coming through when driving

Just bought an extra 450mb of data, so it's not that... Roaming is on...

Have just started using a new phone (Moto g60s)... Could it be it doesn't support some of the bands or APN not setup?

Sometimes the signal drops out completely for hours although this hasn't happened for a few days. I moved in on 31 Dec 2021 and I must work from home. Had to travel 80 km a day to another house with a fiber connection and back to actually get something done. I am on the verge of getting replaced by another freelance contractor because of this.

My wife bought a huge prepaid deal from cell c. All of a sudden she gets the message "not registered on network"

She has tried on other devices with the same result and am feeling sick now because all seems to be lost. This is in discovery area. What is going on ?

Hi Stevo1

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Please PM us the affected location, the number in question and her contact number.

Hi SM as i said the affected location is discovery, the sim is only used for internet connection so we did not bother memorizing the nr, we cannot use USSD code to check the nr. because it is not registered on the network. She is beyond furious with cellc and that she has lost the data and airtime that is why i am posting.

My suggestion is to take that SIM (along with ID of the registered user, just in case) to a Cell C shop - assuming you live near enough one?

They should still have a record of the purchase and all data still available on their system.

If that's the case, they'll do a SIM swap for what was R11, which is a bit of a kick in the teeth (because after all, it's their network that's failed), but well worth getting your data back for.

Quite a few of us had similarly go wrong with their SIMs and they managed to resolve this way.

EDIT : re-read your post ; especially seeing as you don't know the number, take ID along so they hopefully can search for the number using those particulars.
