Cheaper 3G Prices - Rep?

Not sure how this gonna fit into Vodacom though. Perhaps VD can explain.
Where is VD today?

I think he meant that iBurst were jumping on the Seacom bandwagon and installing their own DSLAMs, not Vodacom.

VD got gatvol of you guys nagging for cheaper 3G and went home to down a couple of Zanex to relax the nerves :D (can ya blame him?)

So if Iburst can do that, then why not Vodacom? How does this enable providers like Iburst and Vodacom (potentially) to implement cost cuts? Sorry, I am dumb when it comes to these technical stuff. I am more in the business of credit vetting you, activating you and then taking your money for 2 years :D, but would like to know how this works.

Would it be in Vodacom's best interests to match or better Iburst?

They already sacrificed our Jannie Van Zyl to improve their sibling Iburst.
I get the sense we are barking up the wrong tree and should turn to MTN to ring about the changes we expect.

Who dropped data prices first the last time?

It sure wasn't Vodacom even though they made a huge big media spectacle when they did drop prices, etching in our minds the Vodacom brand.

And all of that was in response to MTN[Perhaps they agreed on a prior arrangement].

Turning to MTN IS not only barking up the wrong tree, it is p!ssing against the wrong tree. I use an MTN sim whenever VC is experiencing issues, and that is an issue in itself!

So in the end what you saying is....copper = Tellkom and therefore ***ka speed? So how would DSLAMS help Vodacom? Would Vodacom install DSLAMS @ the 3G base stations and that would then increase the capacity and speed?

I think he meant that iBurst were jumping on the Seacom bandwagon and installing their own DSLAMs, not Vodacom.

Not too sure on exact locations of the DSLAMs, but if Vodacom would wake up and do the whole Seacom thing they can buy a big piece of that and provide their customers cheaper prices and better bundles, until they have finished their own undersea cables (if thats true). And shift people over to their own cable in time. Profits will be larger then due to the savings of using their own cable, number of people signing up or changing to larger packages. Thats how i see it.

I would gladly spend my R 500 odd rand on a bigger package from Vodacom instead the current 3gb i get and stick with them. But that R500 can easily be going towards an uncapped connection.

Thats my predicament.
R500 is a hell of alot of cash for 3gigs, even R390 for 2.
Its R6000 rand a year!

When i put that total into perspective i realise that ASDL is far better value for money.

You just cost me a night of drinking with the calculations.... :p

It's so darn costly i avoid thinking of the total money spent. I rather load up a game and forget about the silly cap.

I do not think we will see any movement on the side of the 3G operators and here is why:
(note: this is not an educated guess but a stab in the dark, which I believe is the same technique their marketing research uses so it balances...)
Their users are *probably* mobile and competing (cheaper) broadband is *generally* less mobile. The only competition as far as mobility is concerned comes from iBurst. And that mobility is severely restricted by the smaller footprint.

So why bother reducing prices? What they lose in subscriptions to iB, ADSL is probably less than what they would lose by being competitive. They have already taken a knock from RICA and from interconnect fees. Doubt they're willing to take another knock. This has been touched on above. My current feeling is that perhaps I should switch to iB (I have no contract with MTN) and just retain my 3G modem and SIM for occasional use when iB is down or I am moving around. I will decide once I see what my iB signal is like after I have moved (next month or two).

WHY O WHY???

Why vodascum..am i still paying R189 for 500mb's..why??????
