Cheaper 3G Prices - Rep?

Redundancy

BUT

i did not say we wont buy from them.

Someone needs to make a move in the 3G space. If the ADSL providers can use Seacom for more than just redundancy, why not Vodacom and MTN? Again both parties seem to be happy to maintain the status quo unless forced into change (e.g. Interconnect rates).

It's been rather convenient that over the years both MTN and Vodacom have charged exactly the same for data, the current changes in the ADSL market just serve to highlight their unwillingness to adjust and compete even more.

Point taken

Well the WACS are happening, like Sameer Dave mentioned at mybb conference they/we investing big money and the capacity will be way more 3.4tbs.As apposed to the SEACOM 1.something tbs

and things are happening in certain parts of SA where we are eliminating telkom and laying our own transmission links e.t.c.well i should say trialing

Hopefully that will be the next "enquiry" - and hopefully by the same team who forced the interconnect rates lower.

We keep eyeing the next rainbow. It was Seacom now its Wacs. A number of ISPs are making things happen NOW with Seacom bandwidth, rather than making people wait even longer why not spend the investment money in a fat chunk of SEACOM? It's can only do the market more good.

If you follow the forums then you will see a number of people have or are considering sacrificing the option of mobility in favour of a fixed line at lower cost and bigger caps. It's actually ironic that the lowering in cost of ADSL bandwidth might actually help Telkom sell more lines (something we have been telling them for years) :o

MTN and Vodacom need to seriously question their position and pricing points. iBurst and Screamer are pushing hard. Telkom 3G towers are also popping up in more and more places. While none of these people have the coverage to allow serious mobility the are all aggressively changing the landscape, which from what I can see neither MTN nor Vodacom are doing.

My personal opinion is that Vodacom's 3G network will also benefit by Telkom selling more ADSL lines - the 3G network is congested and overloaded, and the more people who ditch it in favour of ADSL, the better it will run for those who cannot get ADSL and those who are mobile.

I've done my bit - ADSL is connected and running, and the data contract is in it's last couple of months. I've been spending around R600 -R800 a month on 3G data (spread over 3 or 4 devices) and in future I'll buy a pre-paid bundle once or twice a year when I need it. The rest will be through ADSL, at vastly cheaper rates.

My My My Digichilli's new uncapped option looks very good compared with puny overpriced 2gig bundles @R390
Even Iburst subscribers on 64kb soft cap could push out more then Voda users on 2 gig HSDPA.
DXL was right...
Vodacom's strategy is the same as Vodafone's......
Wait for their DIRECT competitors to follow suit and match pricing accordingly.

The decision is a no brainer!

AYOBA YOBA Digichilli!

I'm moving to an area where:
  1. I can get Telkom ADSL
  2. I can connect to iBurst
  3. I can even get Neotel...
The saving on my data cost (currently around R2700/month) alone is something to look forward to. I don't suppose Vodacom will miss me anyway.

And then there's the view from the braai area.... EISH!!!!

Who else thinks Vodacom HSDPA should become cheaper, or die?

It really pains me to still be paying R589 for a measly 3GB from Vodacom, when all the ADSL ISPs are lowering prices.

Hard to believe Vodacom is the nr 1 broadband ISP in the country.

You'd pay R120 for this including 7.6 on Three in the UK.

I'm frankly fed up with financing huge bonus payments, 2010 world cup, first class airline tickets and gold leaf embossed loo paper via my Vodacon (deliberate typo) broad(ish) band payments!

Let's hope we get a fourth cellular operator to carve the market up!

A fourth provider will simply slot in slightly behind and also charge exorbitant rates.
A drop in price or more data for the same price would work well.
I still enjoy my wireless connectivity from Vodacom, have done so for 4 years now..

In my opinion they used to be the cheapest for sub-2GB internet access (maybe 3GB as well?). Now iBurst is starting to look quite attractive.

Vodacom needs to catch a wake up.

See thread below...oh wait, you have posted there.

They are milking it for what they can because everyone is complaining but just keeps coughing up, but its not like we have much of a choice either. I'm changing to adsl soon though and my beloved contract is changing to prepaid.

I do not hate the company, but the pricing is atrocious. :(

Vodacom 3G - new packages?

With the leaps and bounds ADSL is making in terms of speed, caps and price - would we expect anything in the next 6 months on the mobile side?

No we wont see any changes seeing its been the same for how long now?

Throughput should improve as more and more users jump ship, leaving the available bandwidth to be shared among those who are left :-)

But you'll still be paying through your nose :D

Exactly my thought. :P You'll be topping up more often too! I just bought another 2gigs from these peoples. :erm:
