Cheaper 3G Prices - Rep?

I am one of the guys who moved to cell c after using vodacom for 3 years. But i am still using vodacom number on my phone. I am still buying small data bundle from vodacom to use on my phone. I will wait one or two months if the vodacom does not reduce data prices then i will port my numbetr to Cell c.

Bundle prices dont make sense.

R289 for 1.2G =R240.83 per gig
R389 for 2.3G =R169.13 per gig = cheapest
R520 for 3G =R173.33 per gig
R989 for 5G =R197.80 per gig

whats up with that?

Maybe Vodacom don't want people using more than 2GB in a month and congesting their towers. It would explain why they haven't matched Cell-C's offering.

Much more profit to be made on a 1000 users using 2MB a month @ R2.00 per MB than 1 user using 2GB a month @ R389.

Bboy, "Buy in bulk and save" rarely works. This holiday I noticed that it is cheaper to:
  1. Buy smaller boxes of dishwasher blocks rather than a big box;
  2. Buy four boxes rather than a crate of mangoes;
  3. Convince a cashier to ring about 2x dozen of Windhoek Draught rather than a case;
  4. Bribe 4 traffic cops individually rather than pay one big bribe to the head honcho;
  5. Buy towels individually rather than in sets.
Why should data be any different, especially in the case of Vodacom?

They'll just keep ripping off clueless people and people that have no other choice, while it's still profitable to do so.

see, the trick with vodacon is this. open your own franchise. you will become very rich very quickly :D but I would also imagine you have to know someone up there to be able to do that. bit like our government I guess :/

I know this is a Vodacom thread, but this is still relevant.

I'm on the SAINET 3G APN, which MTN subscribers can use with existing MTN SIMs. They used to have substantially cheaper 3G than MTN was offering.

I'm paying R89 for 300MB. (for use only on a cellphone, this is plenty)

I contacted them after the CellC launch regarding any possible reductions in their subscriptions. Answer? 'Not before the end of the year'

So, end of year comes and I login to their site to check if anything has changed. What's happened? The frikken prices have gone UP! :wtf:

That 300MB I'm paying R89 for is now 250MB for R109! WTF. (At least my bill has not increased accordingly)

So, in the face of all the CellC goodness, people are still clinging to their outdated business models or being forced (by MTN in this case) to pay extortionate rates for mobile data. The result is very little in the way of savings filters down to the man on the street.

Long story short: MTN and Vodacom are not going to be changing their offerings any time soon.

Move to CellC.

EDIT: Current SAINET prices are probably still better than MTN or Vodacom:

Data Bundle Price Per MB in bundle Per MB out bundle
100 MB R 49.00 R 0.49 R 0.50
200 MB R 89.00 R 0.45 R 0.50
250 MB R 109.00 R 0.44 R 0.50
500 MB R 199.00 R 0.40 R 0.50
1 GB R 299.00 R 0.29 R 0.50
2 GB R 399.00 R 0.19 R 0.50

bwahahahahah and that's why I've opted for CellC :p

No more online gaming for me until a price change. That also means no more money from me. It's gonna suck but no choice, it's just unaffordable.

Cheap 3G ? ? ?

Morning All

Wondering when Voadcom will give us competitive data rates and why in South Africa we always have to pay so much for calls and data?

In Aus I can get 10gb of data a month for R 343
In UK I can get 15gb of data for R 180
In SA with Vodacom Uncapped Pro 10gb it costs R 1989

Can someone explain please explain to me the justification for this?

It looks like a huge rip off that we as consumers just put up with.

I am sure that if we compared call costs we would find similar inequalities.

Its time for Vodacom to realize that the future of data is to encourage users to use more and for the network to offer competitive pricing.

In my opinion the state should be offering free unlimited national broadband access and as a massive enabler to development.

Look forward to your comments on the above

Nick
