I know this is a Vodacom thread, but this is still relevant.
I'm on the SAINET 3G APN, which MTN subscribers can use with existing MTN SIMs. They used to have substantially cheaper 3G than MTN was offering.
I'm paying R89 for 300MB. (for use only on a cellphone, this is plenty)
I contacted them after the CellC launch regarding any possible reductions in their subscriptions. Answer? 'Not before the end of the year'
So, end of year comes and I login to their site to check if anything has changed. What's happened? The frikken prices have gone UP! :wtf:
That 300MB I'm paying R89 for is now 250MB for R109! WTF. (At least my bill has not increased accordingly)
So, in the face of all the CellC goodness, people are still clinging to their outdated business models or being forced (by MTN in this case) to pay extortionate rates for mobile data. The result is very little in the way of savings filters down to the man on the street.
Long story short: MTN and Vodacom are not going to be changing their offerings any time soon.
Move to CellC.
EDIT: Current SAINET prices are probably still better than MTN or Vodacom:
