what about those prepaid vodacom contracts @ makro, R324, for R315 airtime + R4100 voucher (effectively it's worked out to budget you R95/ hsdpa gb), (you could use the R4100 to buy airtime, probs at discount too)

I would if I could but I am stuck with Vodacom 3G & iBurst cos my complex is new & Telkom cannot provide a line immediately. ;)

Glad you happy with your 3G for gaming, been there don't that & LAG sucks. Played MW2 with a 3G connection & played with a 4MB line & it's just much smoother & I don't need to empty a clip into someone for him to die....

Im not playing MW2 so it doesn't affect me. Im lucky I guess that the area around me has good speeds and my latency is on par with the people I play with. :)

VodacomData, please send this thread to the powers that be, we are tired of the cheapest HSDPA being 19c per MB!!!! At least give the users who need more than 2GB per month cheaper per MB rates.

One way to save money is not to post stuff that will serve only one purpose: To put money in Vodacom's hands... Even if he does forward it it will be deleted promptly.

http://www.zapp.ro/en/personal/internet/prepaid/zapp-online-with-urban-coverage/

ZappMobile in Romania. 3 months unlimited 7.2mb/s connection excludes modem cause its prepaid for 220RON or R568.80

Remember its for 3 months unlimited internet.

568.80 / 3 = R189.60 per month for unlimited 7.2mb/s connection. Not bad. lets just say that the tower is overloaded and you get a mere 512k connection. For R189.60 unlimited traffic its still not bad no matter how congested the tower is.

*I saw a zapp mobile peer on torrents. So I needed to see if they guy is rich if he can afford to use hsdpa with torrents. That's how I saw cheap 3G. :-)

Yeah, The BS that Vodacom spew of "In other countries 3G is a niche product" and "it's expensive there too" are all lies

we are sick of paying almost a half a grand for 2GB!!!!!!!!

+1 I'm sick of ISP saying its just as expensive in other countries. BS!!!

Just want to add. Saw a vodacom peer on international torrents 41.0.156-urms.3g.vodacom.co.za and its was a 950mb torrent? So or that guy/girl is very rich or finishing the data before it expires or he/she is in for a big surprise

Just something more for reading, News article on MyBB front page Data rollover on all broadband contracts?

Maybe something will come along the lines where you can buy say 20GB at very low/MB cost and then there was no data expiry date.

The problem is that 20GB is still 19c per MB. So however you look at it, it will not change. All packages from 2GB all the way up are all 19c per MB. So whether you buy 2GB per month or 20GB over 10 months, it's exactly the same.

R300 for 3Gig. Wishful thinking?

I see there's good reception for vodacom edge in our area. Only problem is the data bundles is way to expensive exspecially taking into account how much broadband prices have dropped.

I am a gamer and 3Gig is the bare minimum I need to be able to play my games online.

Is there any hope for the future for more reasonable prices in the not too distant future? Or should I just give it up and seek an alternative.

Seriously. R250 for 500Meg is shameful...

Would it even be okay latency wise for games?

I would go adsl it's way cheaper.

Well...

If you bought the modem cash or obtained it yourself otherwise,
You could get a sim for 50c at CNA and go prepaid.

3gig would cost you R589.

Vodacom Broadband Standard prepaid & Top Up / ADSL price comparison

The cost structure of establishing and maintaining a state-of-the-art wireless data network is totally different to that of a wireline network that has historically been advantaged by competition protection and external funding.

A comparison of our Broadband Standard prepaid / Top Up / bolt-on pricing with that of ADSL (MWEB ISP pricing) to illustrate that our data pricing is competitive with that of ADSL. This pricing also does not quantify the various benefits of our offering wrt to mobility, flexibility and coverage.
