Cheaper 3G Prices - Rep?

Fantastic....especially now in the light of mweb's recent announcement about uncapped broadband for only R219.00

I'd hardly class a 384k service as broadband, but uncapped 4mb all inclusive of Telkom costs for just over R1000 is definitely looking good!

Still no movement on bigger caps. All MTN have done is released Vodacom Advanced bundles at Standard bundle rates.

It's a pity MTN weren't brave enough to break the pricing [-]collusion[/-] deadlock, but let's compare their offering with Vodacom's as they stand now:

Notes:
  1. Vodacom data bundles expire at the end of the next calendar month. Purchase a bundle on the 1st of a month and it will last close to 60 days, purchase at the end of a month and it will last close to 30 days.
  2. This prevents contract subscribers from getting their carry-over every second month.
  3. OOB = out-of-bundle rate and IB = in-bundle rate, basically this is what you pay per MB once your data bundle is depleted. Vodacom's Broadband Advanced bundles offer OOB = IB but at double the price of a Broadband Standard bundle (based on 1GB BB-A and 2GB BB-S both costing R389).
  4. Historically, Vodacom have charged extra for 3G, 3.6 and 7.2 when they were launched, MTN and Telkom 3G have not.

I like how the internet is playing out.Sad that Voda isit saying hello,

I get 500mb for R150 at telkom 3G,R219 at mweb for uncapped?

Say bye bye Dstv,hello uncapped!

I'm also quite perplexed as to why Vodacom and MTN are not lowering their prices and increasing their caps.

My best guess is that they're waiting to milk anyone and everyone that rocks up for the World Cup and might decide after that to lower prices.

What a greedy ol' bunch of people. I hate them with a passion.

Price fix more please? At least MTN drastically lowered the OOB that was causing the insane bills for a lot of people.

Vodacom and MTN have been price fixing data bundles for 4 years now. They have made so much money off consumers it's scary.

I had hopes of them lowering prices/increasing caps but I voted with my wallet.

I'm a proud no-longer-Vodacom-3G-user.

I think MTN's version of the "60 day" windows is much better... and which bundle is used first... Vodacom are insane.

Slow or no response to competition to movement in 3G prices

Dear Vodacom

You do not make it difficult to us to take a decision about our future loyalties in the broadband arena.

MTN recently reduced rates and any customer can now get broadband from MTN at the same conditions as your Broadband Advanced but at rates 33% lower. On MTN I am only required to pay R389 for 2 Gig and thereafter 19c/Mb OOB compared to Vodacoms R589 and 29c/MB. This for exaclty the same speeds.

With MTN's new rates you can also from now commit to only a 2Gig monthly bundle but thereafter pay at 19c/MB against Vodacom where you must commit to a 10Gig bundle to give you rates of 1c/MB more than MTN (20c vs 19c).

And with all this that happened in the last week, Telkom called to inform me that they will come to install my ADSL in the coming week, after I ordered this in 2006 and was told that I will never get this on my farm. Now I can go for MWeb unlimited and forget about Vodacom and cellular data bundles for good.....

Vodacom, I think it is important to adjust your rates immediately to never seen rates in this country or face loosing a large proportion of your income. It seems that MTN is meaning business and that Telkom is using there proceeds from the sale of Vodacom to Vodaphone well in order to grow its broadband by even giving me a 4Mb line on my farm outside Krugersdorp where according to the network coverage maps I still do not have 3G access to Vodacom (for this reason running with a Poynting antenna on the roof).

Wake up Vodacom!
