Got a 5 Gig data sim only today.
I will have 5 gigs a month.
It cost me R2000.00.
The internet is flying.
The best is yet to come. I will only have to pay for internet again on the 1st Jan 2012.
Happy days indeed.

Got my 5GB today.

I'm impressed!

Not only that. The consultant came to my place to do a coverage test. The overall customer service is excellent! VC can learn a thing or two about customer service from these guys. They (Cell C consultants) cannot even answer their phones while they're helping a customer.

So get this. I got the 5GB package today with 5GB to use till the end of the this month so my 12 months only start from next month. That means 5GB for this month is free!!!!!

Best move I made in a log time. Using the difference to pay off a significant amount extra on my bond...

I must say it was the best buy I have done. Two 5Gig for 12 months. If I work out how much I have spend on vodacom the past year to buy 2Gig for two laptops, then this is worth it over and over. For 2 X 2Gigs for 12 months worked out at R9336 and that does even include the modem. Now for R5998 I got a Modem + Sims and 60Gigs times 2.
Even the Technical service at Cell-C is very much awake and very helpfull.

Goodluck over there at CellC, considering the abysmal 2G and 3G signal problems in my area and frequent dropped calls, I might rejoin CellC as well.

Now for a bit of irony, this thread has the title "Goodbye Vodacom" and involved coming back to MBB's Vodacom forum to create it, I cannot help wondering if this thread would have had more impact were it created in MBB's CellC forum - after 12 posts prior to mine it seems to have entered a state of hibernation...

I still can't understand why Vodacom & MTN do not respond to CellC's offering.

Cause they making enough money and they have locked in guys on 2 years on contracts - VC and MTN will only cut pricing in the next 12 - 18 months . I have already calculated from 1 Jan 2011 i am joining cell c , and dropping my contract bundles to the bare minimum until they expire . I still get some value out of night owl but its messing up my sleeping paterns and ending on 31 Dec 2010

Cheakmate id say.I think vodacom and mtn both are looking at this at a long-term point of view, like the c.e.o of vodacom said in his interview these are promo prices,so as long as Cell C keeps these promos up the better, but with the pre-paid deals on the table its hard to even see any threat to Voda and mtn.Thou im not going waste time,im going get that deal and enjoy it

*Cliche* Wait till Cell C gets congested.

I think when it's congested, it'll still be 2 or 3 times as quick as Vodacom at a fraction of the price.

My broadband criteria is simple : a stable, reliable 1mbps+ download / 100kbps+ upload with sub 200ms ping. I haven't received that for most the year

CellC is killing Vodacom.

A week ago I would have agreed with you, but the announcement of the bundle prices this week has given a clear indication of Cell C's intention with rates after the promotion is history. The real rates for larger bundles will probably be pegged just below MTN's rates.

Yea - but if you do take this promo now, you're only have to worry about broadband again in late 2011?

When that comes, you swap (if need be) to MTN or Telkom. Broadband industry is changing every few months with lower prices (Vodacom excluded), higher speeds (Vodacom excluded) and genreall better service (Vodacom excluded).

Buy in bulk and pay more has forever been part of Vodacom's pricing policy

I'm considering jumping ship soon as well before the promo for Cell C ends. I'm even going to mention the Cell C promo to my familie. It will save them a lot of money.

What's holding you back?

Actually nothing. Just got alot on my plate at the moment.

But i'm definitely gonna mention it to my family. At the moment my uncle buys 600 MB of Data per month for his kids for school projects and stuff. I work it out that over the next 12 months he'll save R1000 if he goes for the Cell C Promo. And he'll get 3 times the amount of Data.
