Pretty much the same as I did.
After Vuma left it took one 30 seconds call to Cool Ideas and i was online 5 minutes later.

I didnt even call Vuma. Just connected my router to the ONT and browsed to shop.vumatel.co.za - chose the CISP package I wanted, less than a minute later I was online.

This is what I did too, but that only works with the trenched version of vuma. If the installation was done by Vumatel Aerial then you'll rather need to contact Cool Ideas for your PPPOE login details.

Yeap exactly.

Ok guys - might the the wrong thread, but I don't want to start a new one for what is possibly a simple question...

Vumatel has booked an installation into my house for tomorrow, I have opened an account with Cool Ideas to get the FICA documents and banking details sorted in the meantime. My router is WAN capable, so I am going to use that as my WIFI solution - is there anything else I need to do to make this a seamless as possible?
Just remember that if you are with Vuma trenched, the network uses the MAC of the first router to attach to authenticate.it is possible to change later or clone MAC addresses.
If it's your chosen router then no worries.

In what universe is it acceptable to ignore a customer's responses since Friday.
I'm not referring to yourself personally, but your support staff suck.
I just joined you guys on Friday and I've already got a bad taste in my mouth.

How is one supposed to get support?

Problem description:
I've been getting some erratic/slow responses on my upload speed (100/10), and my NNTP downloads are not at a stable speed.
On Friday, there was one Netflix stream running, and I was only able to get around 3.4MB/s.
Last night, with nothing running on the network, I did hit a max of 10MB/s but then it dropped down to 7-8MB/s.

Ah man, I read this just as I'm about to cancel with iConnectTelecoms over service issues, and move to Cool Ideas :( I'm on a 200/20 but iConnect can't give me a stable 200 down. I get 90 down on average (Vumatel infrastructure). Was hoping things would be different if I moved to Cool Ideas.

There must be an underlying issue somewhere along the line as Cool Ideas definitely have the network capacity - See - https://www.cisp.co.za/network/#t2

if I move from iConnect to Cool Ideas, how much downtime will I have? I'm currently on iConnect 200/20 using their router, which they manage etc. I'm not getting a constant 200/20, in fact not even close.

Does my ISP make a difference for online gaming, especially in-game ping to EU servers? We are a gaming family so ping is a big deal for us. At any given time we have 3 family members online on PS4s/PCs - and another family member streaming Netflix etc.

Sorry to hear that.
I've just joined them on Friday and obviously want to get the best out of my link.
I've also noticed that my upload speed of 10Mb/s is not stable.
To be fair, on [local] speedtests my download is over 100Mb/s.

What NNTP server are you using, Many factors that could influence the speed you are getting on NNTP.

I'm using the NewsDemon EU server.
I used to get full speed on my ADSL line, so I see absolutely no excuses for not maintaining a solid connection on a fibre link.
I am on a package with unlimited bandwidth and speed.

In terms of your latency to EU Servers, Cool Ideas have a presence at LINX and Pick up their Transit from London as well, so they have far more control over their immediate network than most other ISPs have, as well as having access to Pbcool if latency to a game server network is wonky I'm pretty sure he would go to the extent of setting up direct peering at LINX if need be.

In game latency for League of legends is pretty decent on their network, as well as overwatch playing on EU servers sits at like 170ms, Afrihost/IS/Vox sits at around 200ms to the same game servers.

Thanks for this info :) I like the option of having someone tech savy actually caring, like Pbcool, this is what drew me to this thread. We play mainly Overwatch and Siege, getting stable 165ms ping to Overwatch EU servers thru iConnect but a sad 200ms to Siege WEU servers. I'm not happy with other aspects of the service from iConnect, and also some stability issues - we get a lot of disconnects where we all disconnect at the same time.

Anyway, I posted earlier asking Pbcool how much downtime I'll have if I move from iConnect to Cool Ideas, so chances are I'll move to Cool Ideas... pretty much based on this thread.

The challenge here is that on your ADSL Line your line speed would have been lower, so let's presume it was a 10mbps line. You are now on a 100mbps link, Cool Ideas have the international capacity however how do you know the NNTP server has the bandwidth capacity available, So not exactly a scientific measurement of performance. NNTP providers are dodgy at best, buying the cheapest bandwidth/collocation space which starts to show on higher speed connections.

Sure, I get what you are saying.
However, that doesn't really prove your case when I perform speed tests to London (EOH Networks) and get a download speed of 16Mb/s and upload of 6Mb/s.

If they've got a termination point into LINX, my connection should be lightning fast.
