Wat nou?

OK, so I had my 100 mbps fiber line installed over the weekend (Vumatel trenched, Durbanville). Still doing some tests to make sure all is OK. According to the Vuma installer, the noise on my line is low (-9 db - whatever this means). Local speed tests are looking good, with up/down around 95 mbps, 1ms latency.

What is the benchmark speeds on a 100mbps line for international speed tests? I'm not getting close to 100mbps: around 20 - 40 mbps down, and about 10 mbps down. Is this to be expected?

I dont want to log tickets unnecessary.

This on Xbox? Your latency is fine? Also why isn't it cabled :)

Only my desktop pc is hard wired to my router. Can't stand wires and my home is an older one so allowances for running ethernet cables through the walls wasn't made. I've invested in a top end router though and am very happy with the throughput.

Usually get around 80Mbps-120Mbps down on the Xbox. My speedtests on the HTPC located 10cm to the left of the Xbox consistently gets 220Mbps on local speedtests. Use a Totolink A2000UA wireless usb adapter on the HTPC. Very efficient. Even streaming 1080p content over the local network is a breeze. 250Mbps-300Mbps on local file transfer speeds are easily attainable.

Why not use powerline then? It doesn't matter which wireless kit you use there is always a chance of it having a negative impact.

Could I ask you a big favor? Could you test this for me http://uk.testmy.net/SmarTest/down

Yeah, I've considered powerline adapters but really no need. My house is small... :)

Check my performance, first test is on HTPC about 4 metres away from the router, one wall between them.

2nd test is HTPC about 3 metres away from the router with clear line of site.

3rd test is wired Cat6 ethernet cable

I'm getting high packet loss since yesterday.

Ping statistics for 154.0.13.95:
Packets: Sent = 170, Received = 155, Lost = 15 (8% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 2ms, Maximum = 178ms, Average = 14ms

Looking better now, after more packets.

Ping statistics for 154.0.13.95:
Packets: Sent = 830, Received = 826, Lost = 4 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 2ms, Maximum = 249ms, Average = 5ms

Do you have an MTR?

Yes it's that right now but it's a dynamic medium.

Or until one of the neighbors jump on to the same frequency, then latency and speed tumbles down and he wonders wtf happened.

Lol, I'm a serial speed tester. The results are consistent... Neighbors aren't close enough for their routers to interfere and I don't think any of them are using the 5Ghz frequency either.
