My son is battling to upload videos to Youtube.
YouTube is local traffic as we peer with Google locally, if you get full speed on a local test this is the speed you would get to the Google handoff.

Got this reply just now from tech support. I don't believe they understand the problem.

I would rather want them to acknowledge the problem, even if it takes some time to resolve. Suggesting that it is "normal", just peeves me off...

Hi, Leon

Unfortunately we can't guarantee anything close to a 1:1 contention ratio on international traffic, however we do try to stay ahead of our competitors when it comes to speeds. You'll most likely see anything from 10:1 to 30:1 when our networks are at their peak. During our quieter times, you might even see a 2:1 contention ratio.

Please keep in mind that these speeds are dependent on the server that you are downloading from and various other factors such as latency and TCP buffer do come into play.

Please do feel free to let us know if you do find anything particularly slow on international traffic as we'll always try investigate to try and get you the best speeds we can.

I have been advised to ask you to take another speedtest. Please go to www.speedtest.net and choose the Cool Ideas Randburg Server. Once this is done, please begin the test and take a full screen screen shot showing that it’s over a cable.
I have attached a manual to do so.

We need this so that we can determine if it is a wireless issue or if it’s a line issue.

Kind regards

What service are you having issues uploading to? Speedtest results don't necessarily reflect your experience so if you are having trouble in real world use of the line let me know the service and we can investigate. Our upload capacity peaks at 30%. Also let me know which fibre provider you are on because remember PON is natively asynchronous

I have already indicated its on Vumatel trenched.

I also dont understand the reasoning around speed vs experience. If your service cannot achieve the same speeds locally and internationally (even in a theoretic test like a speed test), it should be stated as such.

I need to know it is possible to upload/download at the advertised speed if the ideal situation arise.

If you can upload at above 100mbps from inside the CISP network to international, why cant I do it from home.

If the problem is a Vumatel issue, let us identify it, and address it, if possible.

Yes so apologies I deal with multitudes of posts and mostly from my phone.

Have you read the article on the TCP window scaling posted earlier? This is the reason upload results on Speedtests are as such and why it's usually not relative to real world use. Which is why if you have an issue with a service it's far more relative than a speedtest result.

Cool Ideas Fiber ISP - Feedback

Anyone seeing degraded download speeds on vumatel aerial? Only getting 35mbps down on 50mbps link. Tested on cable.

Edit: Seems restart fixed it. Bit annoying.

Please log it, if it happened once there us a good chance it will happen again, most issues we see like this are on the PON networks.

Hi all,
Waiting for my ONT to be configured by Vumatel.
I’ve signed up with Cool Ideas (great service from them so far).

Can anyone let me know what router will be supplied on a 20/2 package in a Vumatel Aerial area?

I’ve also heard that it is necessary to setup a dedicated firewall on the Vumatel network- can anyone elaborate on this please..

You will receive a TP-Link TL-WR840N

Thanks- hmmm looks like an entry level piece of skonkd!
So if I up my package, will they upgrade me?
All my other equipment is gigabit rated.
Depends on the package, you are welcome to use any router you like with the service.

I'm on the 100/100 package and recived the same router. I also have a Mikrotik RB962UiGS-5HacT2HnT and have set it up as PPPOE dial up before but I'm weary of the firewall and DHCP manual setup. The quick setup for some reason won't let my ethernet connected PS4 be recognised by the router.

Do you have established and related rules in place?

Netflix (US) is dying... fast.com gives full speed.

Local streaming works better, what do you need to help diagnose?
