If so... is anyone here using 1 and if so, what's your experience been with it from a firewall point of view?

No you can't. The USG isn't a modem. I've been using one with my Ubiquiti home network for quite a while now. All you do is disable wireless for your fibre router and connect it to the USG. The USG will of course also connect to your network switch. And that's it.

Thanks for the clarification... my concern is that the supplied TL-WR840N is not gigabit rated.

Zyxel SBG3300-N. Cost R1.8k from Web Africa - never been a customer of theirs but they sell routers to anyone.

Make sure you know what you're doing before setting up the USG or you're in for a horrible time. Router must be on a different subnet, so change to 192.168.2.1 (for example) in its settings before starting with the USG. The USG must be 192.168.1.1. I also strongly recommend using the UniFi Cloud Key Controller (connects to switch, not USG) so your UniFi stats are actually being captured without the need for a PC running 24/7.

Just going to jump on this thread quick, can anyone using CISP 50 or 100 megs uncapped packages, do a speeds test to any london server and post the details...? and maybe which fiber infrastructure you are with and time of speedtest?

Its just for comparison sake.

Thanks for the PM. Not much point in bothering with that though seeing as I already have a Cloud Key Controller. I prefer the key due to it being an offline solution. The key's bandwidth logs show it moving quite a bit of data around regularly, so I'd rather not have all that needing to go to AWS.

Why don't you like the Cloud Key?

Just going to jump on this thread quick, can anyone using CISP 50 or 100 megs uncapped packages, do a speeds test to any london server and post the details...? and maybe which fiber infrastructure you are with and time of speedtest?

Its just for comparison sake.

International speed tests haven't looked good for me for a while on CISP. Multi-threaded downloads still get good speeds, but it's frustrating nonetheless.

I assume he means you can use any router or modem that you want. There's nowhere in the USG to configure an internet connection, never mind all the additional settings you'd want access to.

@pbcool I'm trying to identify the issues with my dad's internet, he is struggling to load webpages and attachments and his email. Apparently its been going on for a weeks and its driving him crazy.

I'm using teamviewer and it is seriously dog slow. Check speeds results (10mb fiber): http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6809913336.

Tested with an ethernet cable, unsure who is the fiber provider(its using a Planet router??). Please assist. Pm'ed account details.

I've done numerous tests on this the past few days, at different times. My 100/100 mbps Vumatel line tops out at about 50/5 mpbs to London, and about half that to USA. I've never seen above 10 mbps upload speed to international servers using SpeedTest.

Disclaimer: These were done over a Wifi connection - So, no, I will not using them as for troubleshooting purposes...

Are you on Vumatel trenched or aerial? Obviously all tests are on cable?

I dont follow, are you saying there is nowhere to configure a PPP maybe? I have configured one on static/dynamic IPs before.

Ye it is very frustrating as on my old Vox 20 meg line with Vuma i got way more than my CISP 100 meg line on TT Connect.
BUT CISP are apparently on it so let see what they uncover.

Strange, on my 100 meg line only get below 10 meg (no matter when i test), but my uploads range from 10 - 35 megs.
Killing me here.
