So just got my account activated today on Vumatel. Speeds seem fine but the latency is incredibly high for local servers. International seems to be fine. Capture.PNG

I believe Google is doing some sort of local maintenance. Are you sure you are using our recurive dns servers? Also try the same trace to 8.8.8.8?

It doesn't seem to just be Google though. When I checked Battlefield 1 I was also getting 160ms on local servers.

So yesterday I got a call from C-Fibre to ask me if I have decided who my chosen ISP would be seeing as my fibre should be going live soon and they have been making the rounds in my hood, and I told him I'm going with Cool Ideas, he then proceeded to tell me I should find out what the contention ratio is on Cool Ideas as theirs is 1:1, I was laughing on the inside when I heard this, he then proceeded to tell me how if the contention is 20:1 I would never get my full line speed and it would probably be like having ADSL with Telkom, I was holding back my laughter at this point, is Cool Ideas allowed to give out contention ratio? I'm still going with my Cool Ideas decision, I just wanted to know for interest sake, I plan on giving someone higher up at C-Fibre a call to call them out on their BS.

Contention is not so much a factor these days or at least it shouldn't be, it was relative when DSLAMs were already contended before even reaching IPC handoff which was another point for bandwidth to contend. On the fibre networks, the last mile to handoff should always be completely uncontended, from our side we just make sure we always have excess bandwidth available and just upgrade once you start reaching certain thresholds.

Re the CellC thing, they have been trying that tactic with our customers for a while now and it's pitiful.

@PBCool
Hey mate, any update on the MTN side of things? I know it's probably a little too soon but I'm just very impatient, I really sick of my cap...

They have a unique sort of setup that we are finalising, similar to that of IPC that takes some time. But we are nearly there, once that's complete they will test and we can put our first order in.

@PBCool
I just received a call from one your employees telling me that I can submit the cancellation to MTN now, which I did. Is that fine? I really hope it is.
The lady also told me that they will be putting through the order now.
