I'm in the market and this has discouraged me

My experience has been excellent so far (on 200/200 with Octotel)

Local:

International:

The international upload is a bit wonky today but the test ended too quickly (it was climbing towards the end).

So my line is now active all lights green but now Cool Ideas are dropping the ball can't confirm order and giving me the run around...order has been placed 14th August...

Edit: got sorted out earlier now just dail up issues that Octotel blames on CISP and CISP can't find any issues. tried with 2 modems "USG and Mikrotik RB3011UiASM" also direct to the ONT resulting in error 651 so clearly ONT/Octotel issue

Sorry on double post.

What VPN providers do you guys generally recommend with CISP and Octotel my speed to Durban and JHB is really not what i expected to and required atleast above 25/25 with a vpn connected to London i have a 200/200Mbps package with CISP this is my speedtest WIRED to Durban and JHB vs CPT

Durban:
http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6859469914

JHB:
http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6859476025

CPT:

Also my speedtest to same server as Zoid

So for the past few weeks there is an issue with the internet on daily basis... now international is down completely, speeds are a mess completely... cool ideas your service is becoming like Telkom ADSL, MTN/Afrihost, = crap! Paying R 1500 for a 200mbps that 95% of the time is either unstable, has huge packet loss, or its down completely.... then you end up just blaming Vumatel for every reported issue! I think customers will take it better if you just tell us that your system is at peak and you dont have enough bandwidth to cater for everyone and that you are "hopefully" working on it, rather then just blame everyone else and provide **** service or say that there is no problems on your side. So frustrated!

and here I sit, my internet is absolute bliss most of the time, except for the occasional outages on the CPT-JHB backhaul drops.
:/

I signed up was quick an easy. Had some problems on vumatel's side but blazing through now :D

Twitch at source 1080(60) going perfectly. Max throughput where I have tested so far.

Out of interest sake, wanted to know what download speed I could get from that speed.hetzner.de server which some of you guys have been using.

On my workstation pc at home I get this:
Code:
tinuva@outlawstar ~ $ aria2c -d /dev -o null --allow-overwrite=true -x 15 --file-allocation=none http://speed.hetzner.de/100MB.bin

Roughly about 20Mbit/sec. To be fair, I was also running NZB downloads going at 2.5MB/s, so another 25Mbit/sec.

Then I log in to a VPS hosted in Cape Town on another network:
Code:
[root@thor ~]# aria2c -d /dev -o null --allow-overwrite=true -x 15 --file-allocation=none http://speed.hetzner.de/10GB.bin

That is roughly 420Mbit/sec, so can easily max out a 200Mbps line.

So that server should be able to max out my line at 100Mbps. Now to figure out where the packet loss is on my side :(

what package where you on before 200mbps?

I want to switch to Cool Ideas from A360 but cool ideas is a bit more than what I'm paying now. The performance on A360 is pretty good but when you need support with billing or technical issue there is NO support. That is basically my only gripe with them. Wonder if moving to cool ideas would be a wise move.

Technically CISP is worth it!

There is a ticket system, and support during business hours is available, then we have a PBCool here to help if the other channels fail.

I don’t mind paying bit more, as the service is 99% of the time great, had some issues with speed, but were sorted.

When A360 launched in the Estate I was paying R999 as a launch offer but it's R1299 for 100Mbps uncapped. Cool Ideas is R1499. :(

I think for now I would rather stick with A360. They are really good no issues at all expect for the no support issue. There were like 2 fibre breaks last month but those issues can happen to any provider so yeah.

It would unfortunately be a line or fibre carrier issue, it isn't capacity related else every customer would be affected. Are you on aerial or trenched?

Hi,

Jip Duwane and the awesome team sorted me out was an issue at Octotel not passing the PPPoE server somehow. Only issue right now is terrible international speeds i have logged a ticket with the CISP team and i am sure they will follow it up for me :)

I get pretty respectable speeds, varies a bit although average speed still good:

Any tips on getting the pathetic PS4 network to download at respectable speeds?

What it looks like now:

Seems to be capping out at 6Mbps (on a 200Mbps line). I know the PS4 network is slow but I've never seen it this bad!

EDIT: Note, this is over ethernet and using the CoolIdeas DNS server (tried Google DNS but same).
