Am on Vumatel trenched (Gardens/Western Cape), have not seen any network issues.

Moved after been 13 months on Web Africa(50/50) based on myadsl feedback. Initially had poor performance, but they 'did what they did' and I had decent performance post WA intervention.

Been on Cool Ideas(100/10) for just on 4 days and performance has been poor.

I ran a fast.com test and got results of 2.4Kbps and then 14Mbps. In my time at Web Africa, did not get anywhere close to that.
Also my Terrarium experience has been less than stellar - in the past it has been very decent!
Yes, my connection is not wired, but for the past 13 months it has not been as well.
To understand my landscape, I have pensioners on either side of me who have a very archaic set up and I have not changed my set up.
Really trying to understand how this occurs when nothing has changed on my side apart from a new ISP?

Doesn't sound right, Cool ideas have a netflix cache on their network (fast.com tests to netflix servers) which are also in NAP JHB where they have a 20gbps link, So plenty of capacity to netflix servers.

So if you are getting poor speeds to fast.com, then something else is at play with your fibre line itself or internal LAN issue possibly.

Working fine since 'my' WA intervention, but since joining cisp, last 4 days has been less than stellar from a fast.com perspective. (as well as terrarium)
Only thing I can think of, I am still using the router, TP-Link AC750, I got from Web Africa.
Anecdotal, yes, but fast.com speedtests in morning are always significantly better than evening - yes, I do test connection speed reasonably often :-)

The day has finally come! Vumatel is coming to install my CPE tomorrow morning.

Once that is sorted out whats the fastest way to get going?
I assume just signing up through the vumatel portal for the 20/20 package?

However I would like to pay to upgrade to the Archer C2 router. When would I specify that?
How long would it take to arrive?

Also what are the terms with the upgraded router if I am not happy with the performance of CISP and cancel after a month?
 
Cool ideas is completely down for the second time tonight. Very unhappy ATM since I cannot work. Also please fix your international peering incoming it keeps dropping to half or completely. This should never happen.

Who is your fibre infrastructure provider, Not seeing any drops on their Network Graphs, so probably your physical fibre line/operator having issues.
 
There was a drop on the graph earlier for the issue earlier. The current issue is on Vumatel's side they are attending to it.
 
If I upgrade my fibre speed from 10mb to 20mb on the portal will it handle the pro-rata calculations? I payed it via CC before.

It should. When I upgraded, I selected the 1st, and CISP still sent me a pro-rated invoice, which they reversed to have it work for the 1st.

I think that this is partially the correct thread so here goes:

I'm currently signed up with CISP and have a 20/2 package, using the il cheapo TP Link router which they supplied. I've connected a Unifi AP AC Lite to this and we use this as our access point. I have however left the wifi enable on the TP Link for times when I take the Unifi with me to clients (this keeps the Mrs happy).

I just purchased a Mikrotik RB750 GR Router which I would like to setup as my primary router and utilize the firewall functions of this router. Still need to learn how to use this thing *eish*

What do I need to do to get the Mikrotik working with CISP (I've read something along the lines of MAC address binding or something)?

I then plan on turning the TP Link into an access point.

Any advice?

So if anyone is interested, called CISP, got username and password for my account- added them into the Mikrotik and BOOM.
TP Link now setup as backup wifi for the Mrs

They have tons of spare capacity, also you are testing to the cool ideas speedtest server which is on their network, so it can't be Transit/peering congestion anyways. So something wrong with Vumatel in your area or your local network me thinks.
 
Hi All

Is there any charge to downgrade?

Getting a fraction of what I pay for which should not be the case - was getting better performance on my WebAfrica connection.
