Is this still happening at peak times? There is no exact process per say, if you constantly have no international we need to have the line checked or take it up with Vumatel.

Tested just now. Getting close to full speeds to London and New York.

Last night at around 8-10 pm, the international speeds where around 5 Mbps down, 2 Mbps up.

Is this congestion? If so, how can it be on Vumatel's side if local speeds are full?

Was there a blip on your system this morning? My router was unable to authenticate basically from 05h00 - 06h00. The ONT had 4x green lights throughout this time. Area is Octotel, northern suburbs.

Also, what is the usual process for the supplied router? I kinda forgot about it since I am using my own one but it has been a week and I have not heard anything more regarding it

Nothing on our side, may have been an Octotel outage. What do you mean the process? Did you elect to have a router supplied?

When there is congestion this means that not all packets make it, on local the retransmits are much faster so they almost get priority over international. We are still busy with Vumatel on this in Cape Town and will let you know once we have feedback, should be in the next day or two.

Have you logged it? You might be in the same area.

I have logged it but the response I got from support indicated that they never read the fault report before responding with a cut and paste reply, requesting "a speed test to randburg with a wired connection"..

So I got frustrated and left it at that

Btw, I have the same symptoms as Leon except that I'm in Johannesburg and on SADV

PM me your ticket number.

Again, this is the same problem i was having. So far everything has been fine this week. But Vumatel aren't able to tell me what happened. PB is there any way for you to find out what is causing this on their side. From what i have seen here it all seems to happen under Vumatel.

I was getting packet loss already from the local hops out and i am sure, if the others tested they would see the same.

Do you have a counter part at Vuma that you could find out directly what happened?

What's going on with cool ideas atm? First i couldn't connect at all and now only local is working.

There was a route change in CT, are you still having the issue? Same applies.

No sorted now. Just phoned support and in that time local came back, and then international.
Is this something one can schedule better or warn about upfront? I was busy on conference call with international clients and got cut off.

If it's service impacting it would be planned, this was a backhaul link that died and swapped over to the redudant path.

I agree. More people are running businesses from home these days, and with the FTTH roll-outs these numbers will increase. The fact that it is FTTH (vs FFTB) should not mean that we need to be happy with whatever quality/speed we get. It need to be better than a "best effort" service.

No, It's FTTH, At a consumer price marketed for consumers. FTTB is higher priced with better SLA's in place and planned/marketed as such for businesses.

Do Cool Ideas give a test account?
Or a tiny prepaid?
Is it as simple as me putting the details in my modem?

What fibre provider are you using? Only provider that you can change ISPs on the fly is Openserve.

@PBCool helped someone once, so yes it is possible and No, it's not just a setting as easy as username and password change. :p

Metrofibre.

You would need to have the line configured onto our network with MFN unfortunately, not way to just test.

@PBCool,

Quick question - I cancelled Telkom fiber and got left with an OpenServe installation. I spoke to a couple of ISPs and eventually was told that it was quicker to do a new line installation than to migrate the OpenServe line. Part of the problem is that Telkom handled it all, and now that I've cancelled I can't get any details from Telkom about the line. (I have the cancellation details from Telkom, but nothing else, and that refers to their contract identifiers, not the line identifier.)

Firstly, is that true? Secondly, given that I'd like to go with you and Vumatel, what's the fastest way to get something off the ground

Thanks

d
