Yeah sorry all, our AWS direct connect session was turned up at 4am, this seemed to break DNS resolution to all AWS related services. We are investigating as to why this happened and will report back.

This is awesome.

If i understand right, any service that is running on any AWS platform should see an decrease in response time (lower latency), am i correct?

Hmm nope that's a different setup, they used to install a Mikrotik with the fibre uplink and you would have the ethernet for the DSTV. I presume another fibre lead from the fibre splitter to a Mikrotik and then our device into that. Unless they have changed things up.
I spoke to one of the workers doing the physical fibre installations at the various apartments in our complex. He said that the DSTV FTU i have is not the ONT that they will come and install later on once they receive instruction from yourselves / Frogfoot / Century City Connect (I'm not sure exactly).

Yeap exactly, they will need to install additional hardware from the fibre handoff.

Yes and no, but basically a direct connect into the Amazon pop so their CDNs etc should help, but we peer with them in London already so I doubt latency to their services would improve considering we have the lowest latency as it is.

@PBCool Thanks as always for the great service here.
Are there still network issues on VUMA Aerial Athol & Vuma Parkhurst?

Got client's who are complaining

No notices, what is the issue?

International bandwidth between 6:30pm til 10:30 pm NON EXISTENT

Hi there.
I live in Robindale
For at least 2 weeks now, I get 2MBps download speed from europe (London specifically) between about 6:30PM and 10:30 PM at night
This is ridiculous. I am paying for a 100 MBps line and I am getting worse service than when I was using 4 MB ADSL
Cool Ideas might have tripled it's customer base in the last year, but having been with them for the last 2 years, I unfortunately have to conclude they have hopelessly oversold their international bandwidth to the point I have to now give my notice because I am unable to stream ANYTHING at prime viewing time ...

Any chance you are on Vuma aerial?

Thanks for the feedback, do you have a ticket number for me?

This is not a limitation on our international bandwidth but more likely saturation on the last mile network. This is cropping up more of late.

Our international capacity peaks at 70% between those hours for indication.

I seem to be having issues again...

But no packet loss this time, just weird spikes on my line. I am on TS and i suddenly go from 3ms to 33ms locally and international the same. While this is happening i check my line and no one is downloading at all...

This is just getting frustrating and i don't know where to look, Vuma Aerial or CISP.

Can anyone else confirm if they are having issues like mine tonight?

Easy way to test is to run an MTR to your destination whilst this is happening. If it's your first hop it's more than likely the last mile. At least a starting point to diagnose what is happening.

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

Here it is. My line spikes for about 5secs and then drops back to normal. This is happening constantly tonight.

I get 95 MB to Cool Ideas Randburg, not sure what you mean by last mile saturation ?

Here is my ticket number #COOL-20180223-80587

I know this is probably not CISP. But when i phone vuma some desktop techie answers, then they send out a guy that will check the DB on the line and when its confirmed that nothing is wrong they go... I need you to please get their techs to check my last mile and confirm whats going wrong with their equipment.

Local traffic vs international on a congested circuit gives a skewed result.

On a congested blended circuit local traffic basically makes its way over the line above other international traffic as a priority due to retransmits happening that much quicker on lower latency vs higher latency.
Therefor giving you the line speed.

Thanks for the feedback, so this is only happening at peak times or all the time? Have you bypassed the router as yet as well?

This only started happening round 8:30ish. We were watching Hulu over the VPN and didn't have any issues.

Ill connect directly and test now. Give me 5mins

Same issue here... I have reported it to both Cool Ideas and Vumatel and no resolution for almost a month now. I am on 200mbps and constantly getting 2mbps every evening from 6:30 to 11pm sometime even 12pm. Cool Ideas are sure that its Vumatel congestion/line saturation and Vumatel has already changed my CPE and Port and no improvement. But now this opens up the possibility that it might be ISP related as you are in Robindale and I am in Weltevreden Park, so cannot be line saturation in two different areas.

I am still waiting on Robin and Paul from Cool Ideas to get something done with this issue, but my patience is running off as I end up paying R 1500 p/m for 2mbps internet. What makes me mostly upset is that both parties are acting like its not their fault and they have the nerve to tell me that everything is fine from their end. Also from the time I logged my call I see more and more people posting the same issue and nothing has been done for so long.

This is my speedtests to London: http://www.speedtest.net/result/7084850153.png exactly the same as yours.

Perhaps its time to move to another ISP, maybe the problems will dissapear.
