Your USG is behaving the same as it would being the only device, routing natting filtering.

Most of the functionality like port forwarding, firewall, UPNP, Routes, etc. you can find in the GUI (UniFi Controller). Some specific things you might have to set in CLI.

Cool just sorted it out. Working fine. Was bewildered for a few minutes as to why 192.168.1.1 wasn't accepting the PPPoE settings, until I tried the same thing on the Cloud Key Controller settings for the gateway and it worked fine.

Hard to believe why it would be the case, but MTR results aren't crap anymore. The Google test I posted above is now seemingly fine:

1465 is the highest I can ping without fragmentation. Adding 28 is 1493, actually above the default 1492.

As for trying 1465 as the MTU, I can't find a spot to make that change. Not in the controller settings for the gateway, not in the setting at 192.168.1.1 and I don't spot in in the general settings for the controller.

What is your MTU on the USG now? But still sounds like a line issue.

Well this is what Windows tells me:

Code:
C:\Windows\system32>netsh interface ipv4 show subinterface

MTU MediaSenseState Bytes In Bytes Out Interface
------ --------------- --------- --------- -------------
4294967295 1 0 47291 Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1
  1500 1 3370769714 24469198937 Ethernet

C:\Windows\system32>

So 1500 I guess.

Windows MTU and standard size packets are always 1500, from there your router will fragment your packet with the PPP overhead, and your PPP concentrator will then do the same on the return.

Not sure how to check what the USG is using as the MTU then.

MSS Clamping is the option you are looking for. Just Google how to calculate. I think it is MTU + 40 or something.

I have to add that after I disabled MSS Clamping my USG worked great. Before I had lower throughputs.

Let us know.

Eh, I'm not getting clear answers from Google at all.

Is this what you're talking about?

Why must I configure MSS Clamping if the best option is to disable it? Getting no obvious Google results about disabling MSS Clamping for the USG.

I’m not saying its the best. Just worked for me. Didn’t spend too much time on it.

Try this.

EDIT: Also noticed I had to restart the USG after changing MSS Clamping.

Been having issues in the evenings for the past couple of weeks on my 100/25 package, Octotel, CPT, Claremont - in the evening the internet turns to turd. Was hoping that it would just pass, but it's getting consistently worse.

6.79Mbps to Vox CPT Speedtest Server - http://www.speedtest.net/result/7130732034 (98 usually)
5.26Mbps to CISP Randburg Speedtest Server - http://www.speedtest.net/result/7130744521 (70-80 usually)
1.44Mbps to Seacom London - http://www.speedtest.net/result/7130794864

I set up smokeping today with a couple of probes on hops, DNS servers + speedtests. Hopefully can gather more info on the degraded performance.

Opened up a support ticket: COOL-20180311-85030

@PBCool - is there any update on this? Not sure if CISP or infrastructure, but the evenings are getting worse and worse on Octotel in Claremont CPT. At least I could get ~18Mbps on my 20Mbps VDSL at peak times, now I'm lucky if I get 8Mbps on a 100/25 package. My ticket was responded to with 'Please note that this is a general issue and our engineers are working hard on this', which doesn't provide much confidence that anything will change.

There should be some changes being made in the next week or so I believe relative to Octotel, will update as I receive info.

PB, so after chatting to Vuma yesterday (45min call) it seems that my ONT serial number on my profile was incorrect. This has happened about 3 times now. How is it possible that my serial number can get switched or lost, any ideas or have you seen this with other customers?

Know that you're not alone mate.

Also got Octotel 100/25 in Claremont.

Get minimum of 7% loss. So pages timeout or load "low bandwidth" versions.

All I can say is thank goodness Telkom are incompetent and didn't cancel my vdsl because my fibre line is outright useless during peak.

Do you mean it was cross patched? IE patched into another service?

I am not entirely sure. When I spoke to them, they asked to confirm the number. When I gave them my serial, they said it was incorrect and the reason for the problem. They have requested Reflex networks to edit my config and send it to my ONT.

Hence my confusion.
