That trace looks fine. Absa is probably not using a service that is hosted on edge locations like CPT/JHB, but rather a service in a data center, which uses a region like eu-west-1 by the looks of the latency on that trace.

Edit: in fact a dns lookup confirms it:

Code:

Hi PBcool

Just to bring things a bit closer to getting to the route of my pedantic issue, I ran a speedtest directly from CPE and getting pretty much 20/20. Doing same test through router I am getting quite a bit lower especially on the upload side which hovers around between 12-14MB but download on Router shoots to about 20MB

Doing MTR through router to epic.com produces these results:

I can't read this so I will leave it to you to tell me if you see something.

Yeah so maybe there might be something on my router causing degrading in my upload...

Hell sorry, tried to align those tables.. Will post screen shots if you battle to read it.

Last update is they are still investigating, I have escalated daily with MFN. We are super frustrated as well. As soon as I have anything relative as feedback I will share it. I will try and push for something on Monday again.

Okay, we are now 3 weeks down the line, support indicated they will have an answer this Morning. Do you have an answer? Or should I consider other options?

Hi guys/ gals

New Vumatel-Cool Ideas Fibre customer here.
Glad to be a part of the community.

Quick question:
I'm trying to self install a WAN wireless router that I had lying around, whilst I wait for delivery of the "Free" ISP router.
I just can't seem to connect to the internet, though.
Should the WAN use a PPPoE or Dynamic IP connection?

I've re-set this router so many times but no success.
Please help?

Kind regards

tracertFortnite.jpg

Tracert to Amazon server in EU which hosts Fortnite for SA players. Doesn't look very stable.

Difficult to say if it is just coincidental since I moved to CISP/Vuma last week and if there isn't currently issues with Amazon

Already so difficult to game online in SA and now sitting with this .. :(

Hmmm.

$ ping live-fra.twitch.tv
PING live-fra.twitch.tv (185.42.205.247) 56(84) bytes of data.

--- live-fra.twitch.tv ping statistics ---
9 packets transmitted, 0 received, +1 errors, 100% packet loss, time 8173ms

I think the issue is the twitch peering at LINX. Would be great if that can be filtered out to follow a different path, may fix everyone's Twitch streaming experience.

Yeah so possibly a firmware update first or a replacement.

MFN were waiting for a change approval, apparently the logical 10Gbps ring we were on was the issue. This would be affecting all "open access providers" as MFN call it. But now with nearly a day worth of downtime due to their last change this has been pushed back.

We can filter it out without issue but it would then route via HEs peer at LINX anyway. Not sure how else to manipulate their network to improve our experience. They would be aware of any issues as it obviously affects tons of people.

PBCool, thank you. This is the first substantive feedback thus far. It’s appreciated. I assume no ETA. What’s strange though as I recorded on the support call, this past Monday night speeds returned to normal during peak, but Tuesday it was degraded again.

I agree we have been begging for updates daily, and with the current outage they had we had to beg for feedback constantly being told it's been escalated to the CTO etc. Thanks for the feedback regarding Monday this is new info for us as well that we can try and relay.

Thanks, I will see if there is any firmware updates and I will try another WAN router tonight. If this does not solve anything I will try using the CPE directly to test if I still get variable ping and packet drops on my Upload.

It all just seems very strange that there wasn't anything wrong up until last Sunday. I can't just believe that a router will stop working overnight without any changes or updates made to it.

Anyway, I will give this the benefit of the doubt and see if the issue is on my side.

Electronics can do these kinds of things :)
