Need to get to the bottom of this and see where the bottleneck is, because it is not worth paying for 100 if all i'm going to get out of it is 10% of that.

Haha at least you are paying for 100mbps, we pay for 200mbps and sitting with like 10mbps speeds during that period:)

I think Cool Ideas really need to resolve this issue, as I see more and more people are complaing about the same issue during the same period of time.

No it remained the same, it improved the latency about 4ms though, but again internet speeds would drop intermittently usually from 6pm to 11pm... and on certain days the connection speeds are so bad I get like 3-9mbps to international servers... then I cannot stream anything (apart from youtube which is cached locally).
But to give you a more exact numbers, it feels like my connection gets capped to 30mbps to international servers (london, frankfurt, new york) from 6pm to 11pm, it wont go anything above that. During the day I would get about 100mbps to these servers, which even that is 50% of my line speed, so never really see speeds above 120mbps to international servers even when everything seems to work fine, only when I test to local Randburg speed test I get 204mbps and nowhere else I see anything close to this.

In a nutshell my connection feels like driving a ferrari at 8am or 5pm on the highway between Rivonia and William Nicol :P

Definitely not Cool Ideas that is "over subscribed" more like there are a few areas where the Fibre operator is oversubscribed or haven't got the capacity out of the area which is resulting in slow speeds during peak times to international locations

If everybody was having the same issue then there would be ALOT more posts on here lol.

How can it be Vumatel if my speeds locally are perfect but only international is fubar

If there is any packet loss on your link which is either due to a fibre issue or contention at peak times (which seems relative to what you are describing) somewhere on the network, this then has a major effect on international or higher latency traffic due to re-transmits.

If it was contention - why is local traffic not affected - or do you mean contention on the international portion ?

Just as bad as LTE then. From 6pm - 11pm is completely slow

Have a look at the graph, given that contention problems increases packet loss:

from asperasoft.com. I think with newer operating systems it is not quite as bad as this graph, but it still applies.

As mentioned because re-transmits on local traffic happen that much faster compared to anything higher, therefor the local traffic "wins" when contending for capacity.

Ok - fair enough - so what can we do about this ? Is this just how it is ? Are we at the mercy of the Fibre Line Providers (Openserve in my case ) and how busy their network is at peak times ?

So in summary having Fibre is nothing better than DSL except you can get much higher theoretical speeds over optical cable, but you are still limited by exchange congestion that is shared by all other technologies ( LTE, DSL etc etc ) at the end of the day?
 
@PBCool Will CISPs installation remain free going into November? I see lots of ISPs are dropping their free installations in Nov. I'm still waiting for fibre to be installed in the townhouse complex (all documents are signed etc) and don't want to miss out on free "installation" even though it will literally be just plugging in the router to the fibre point in the unit :p
