Cool Ideas Fiber ISP - Feedback

Hi there, you are doing these tests from tour mobile? You need to do so from a cabled device. Wireless noise spikes at peak times and so does interference.

Get the same results when connecting with cable to Mac with PPPoE connection.

Just used phone screenshot because it show all the tests in a small pic that I can upload.
Also why is the upload sorted if the WiFi is the issue (but it isn't)

If it's only Twitch then I can't really say, Twitch seems to come and go by itself.

It really seems Twitch either cannot handle traffic, or something slows down the int'l traffic. Interesting that this is the case with CI having a direct peer?

Currently watching on Twitch, but cannot go higher than 360p (~600Kbps).

Why the high ping to the last 154 host?

However, they dual stream to YouTube and it's full happy 720p.

We can't base mobile or wireless speedtests as relative results for obvious reasons. Wireless at peak times drops in performance with saturation in wireless noise. Your ticket references the same.

That hop is to our London pop and then Twitchs network from there.

Upload is dependant on the strength of the radio of the device and the receive sensitivity of your router. We cannot accept wireless results obviously because we have no control of a dynamic medium.

Great, but how can we get it sorted?
You get IT support for your requirement on what you need. Distributed APs usually is the resolution. We can recommend people for assistance.

Youtube has South African peering Servers....

Twitch just lets CI access their servers directly.

Local will always load and stream easier than intl...

However, been experiencing the exact same as you for Twitch, but i'm not sure what CI is doing about it :/

I'm just worried they say it's twitches issue, because then surely the other 300,000 people watching the same stream should be getting it too and not just a select few of us from South Africa.... Have people on other ISP's that have no issues with twitch... So can only really be something on CI end or implementation of peering.

Yeah, that's why I brought the fact that the same stream works beautifully on YouTube. So, streaming at high rate not an issue here (as it should be)

I started watching again on Twitch at around 11:30 tonight, and it happily started streaming 720p source and other streams 1080p60.

The only difference? The time and different hosts at Twitch: video-edge-c55ec4.lhr03.hls.ttvnw.net and video-edge-c68748.lhr03.hls.ttvnw.net . All have the same tracert up to Justin.tv

So, quite random and hard to pinpoint. If there's anything we can do to help troubleshoot, please shout.

Please recomend someone that I can contact!

I don't have issues with my WiFi, I want to know why I have a 100/100 service and only getting 10mb down.

If I take my Mac, plug in the cable and authenticate with the PPPoE user and do a speed test, then I get 10-30 down and 85-95 up, If I use a CPT server it is 3-5ms, If I use your server is is in the 22ms range.

So where does the problem come in? Your helpdesk give me answer that you don't contend/block/throttle/shape any local traffic, and that only international traffic is contended 10:1. If I have only one device connected, for SpeedTest purposes, and I test local servers, why do I get such .... results?

Will this be sorted with the Ticket I've logged on the Monday? Or do I need to contact someone else?

Cape Town or JHB?

Hi @PBCool,

I signed up with you guys Tuesday night (both your application form and the vumatel portal). It was active immediately - very impressive. Just wondering how I get access to the client area?

Thanks

Edit: Never mind, emails just came through.

So you would need to update the ticket with a screenshot as you mentioned via cable, the support techs wont continue without that, it's part of the procedure. From there we will log the fault with the line provider.

Johannesburg, Vumatel. Fontainebleau.

As gfmalan mentioned it seems relative to the server that is producing the stream, my hunch is that even though it's a CDN server to leverage lower bandwidth on Twitches network, it still is just a relay so if your stream is coming from Europe no problem, if it's coming from South America, Australia or the West coast in the US for example your latency then goes through the roof and it is a single stream at the end of the day.

Your stream is via web browser on a PC yeah?

Just to chime in here - I'm on the 100/100 package on Frogfoot and I haven't been having the Twitch issues (touch wood).

I'm not sure where the problem comes in, but you can always try to use streamlink (https://github.com/streamlink/streamlink), which is a fork of the old livestreamer project.
It should allow you to use multiple threads to stream, which has solved my Twitch streaming issues previously on ADSL/WISP - at the very least, it might provide you a workaround for the current problem.

Thanks for this.

So i ordered VUMA and CoolIdeas on the CISP website.

Got a mail from Cool ideas to check on the vuma site and order the line, which i did. Nothing since. The Vumatel site really is not great, no way to check status or even check that the order was received. :wtf:

You should have an email confirmation, and they should call and confirm an install date. If not give them a call and ask for the installations department.

Paul - EvoTel is constructing a network in my area currently. Can I pre-order with CISP? And you guys shout at EvoTel and make them expedite the process? :D
