As gfmalan mentioned it seems relative to the server that is producing the stream, my hunch is that even though it's a CDN server to leverage lower bandwidth on Twitches network, it still is just a relay so if your stream is coming from Europe no problem, if it's coming from South America, Australia or the West coast in the US for example your latency then goes through the roof and it is a single stream at the end of the day.

Your stream is via web browser on a PC yeah?

That makes sense. It's just weird and annoying that the same streamer will one day have full 1080 and the next barely pass 360.

Yup. Mostly watch on Chrome, Win 10. Their Android and iOS apps are horrible.
 
@PBCool, I finally got Vumatel to fix my line (it was not working a whole week after install), and signed up with CISP. It is working and I can see I am on t he CISP network, but unsure how I get the product into my CISCP service list. It only lets met sign up for hosting ect.

Morning chaps. I still seem to be having issues with live streaming from Twitch on almost any quality... I have no issues with Hulu or Netflix and i can watch previous streamed content on Twitch without a problem. This is happening from my machine, which is cable and iPad...
 
Twitch seems a curious case, if you follow the dsl threads over the years it always seems to be an issue in SA for some reason.
 
I believe Twitch has some weird limiter or load balancer on their peering point CI uses...
If any of you that experience twitch issues have a VPN try and run it through that and see what happens?

I might be getting a server in europe this weekend that i can try and setup a VPN through and use that, Obviously if that works then it definitely is CI dns and/or peering to twitch...
 
I don't want to come and insult or anything but I use a pretty crappy fibre provider A360. 100/100 package closed network backbone seacom and I never get buffering on twitch.

A360 uses pon and I've noticed speed decreases but twitch always seems just fine I even stream my ps4 plays without any issues.

I mostly get twitch servers based in The Netherlands.
 
Just out of curiosity, what kind of speeds can I expect when downloading images over ftp e.g. Ubuntu? I'm running a 20mbps line... currently getting transfer rate of ~500kb/s...

That is what happens when you get a company that even has a failed wordpress blog to install fibre and sign an exclusive with them even though they are a closed network. No Telkom adsl lines no nothing. It's this for R999 a month or LTE that gives less than 10Mbps speed. Guess I'm stuck with them for a while.

At least it's uncapped like really uncapped I did 800gb of uploading and twitch does not buffer and latency is super low so that is at least something. :erm:
