Not really a cock up, they are making some technical changes. Should only affect you if you had a static IP.

I had to reboot my CPE this morning. Blue light was flashing. Is it normal that there's now an extra hop? And, yeah, IP changed.

I assume you are on Vumatel ? they had a maintenance window from 3 AM to 6 AM. They also sent out SMS's saying you will need to reboot your router afterwards. I had the same thing, got a new IP and now all the speedtests think I'm in Bloemfontein instead of Weltevredenpark.

Yeah, Vumatel. Didn't get an SMS, though... Thanks for the info.

Yeah IP change and they have split the areas up a bit hence The extra hop the Bloemfontein thing will resolve itself over time.

Great. As long as it's all normal.

By the way, Twitch has been running very happily recently. 720source, and 1080. So, don't know if you've changed anything your side. If you haven't, well, nice Twitch...

Hi PB, Vuma coming on Thursday to do the install, I emailed yesterday to ask if I could rather collect my router but no reply.
Please could you assist, [Ticket ID: COOL-20170814-30118] Thanks.

Sure will do.

Uhm, so the fiber cables have been pulled and my garden looks like a war zone, hiehie, next step. There is a black box on my lawn with a white box lying loose inside of it. The Project manager from Vumatel tells met that the ISP will do the connection from the black box to my house and then into my house. This doesn't sound right? Surely Vumatel does the connection from the box on my lawn to the outside of my house, and the ISP form there to inside?

Or am I missing the point completely?

Normally it works like this.

Vumatel install the gray box on your boundary wall on the street side. You pay for a vumatel install which they run fibre from that gray box to inside you house and that goes into a CPE. Mine is a Raycore (White box with 8 ethernet ports). Your ISP may/may not supply you with a router which connects to port 1 on the white box.

Thats what I asked him, then he said because we pay the Vuma installation fee directly to the ISP, they will do the installation?

As far as I am aware, on Vumatel's network you pay the R1710 to Vumatel directly unless your ISP (Who did you choose?) is offering a free install which means they will book an install date with Vumatel on your behalf. Maybe PBCool could verify this?

You would order and pay Vumatel directly, they are very much incorrect. They should not leave until the CPE is installed into your house. If they don't come back to you let me know, or call their HO and ask to speak to installations.

Thank you!

Will follow up tomorrow

Beware the ISP that pays for the install and connection fee....most times they lock you in for 2 years or so.....look very carefully at the detail of the offer....

With Cool Ideas, you pay Vimatel the R1710 for install into your house and then no lock in....

Hmm. So when does Vumatel then send me a bill? (already have line installed and signed up with CISP)
