Nothing to report on the Openserve side in Cape Town, Johannesburg Openserve are supposed to be making some changes in the next few days.

Sounds good.

Hopefully it will clear up some issues that some of us are having on the Openserve network. I noticed that NNTP downloads are also fluctuating on my end. Not that I download the internet, but something fishy is going on during peak time (7-11). Outside those hours, everything is going like a boeing.

We didn't "fix" anything, are you streaming from the same server each time or is it random?

I don’t know, I use Cyberflix. Great, so what you’re saying is there is nothing wrong and I must just accept that I cannot even stream a 2gb RD file on a wait, get this, a 200mb Fibre line! I must just keep throwing R1500 to your pocket while I can’t use the internet for what I need it for.

Well no, what I am saying is that the network is performing as it should and without us tampering with the traffic I don't see it improving for services like this. I will do some tests using some application acceleration and see how things go.

Stop using crap like RD and use Netflix, Hulu, etc, all of which stream perfect 4K always. I’d say the issue lies with the service and not the ISP.

I’m paying R1500 for a 200mb line, I’ll use the internet in any which way I see fit and I expect to be able to stream on any service without issues. The service works for millions of people throughout the world on connections as low as 10mb, so why should I suffer on a 200mb. Fsck that!

Look - this man has a valid point. ^ There are many many people out there that use RD for their entertainment purposes - and for the vast majority it works just fine.

Hi all , I wanted to know what apps are some people using to link their RD accounts with. Much appreciated.

So of the tests I've done if I try download the RD test file on one of our core devices out of peak time I get around 150Mbps consistently then at peak time it starts off high and then tapers off to around 20Mbps. If I download a Centos ISO which also comes over the LINX fabric I get the 150Mbps during peak and off peak all the way through. So I don't think this has much to do with international but more around the fact that the RD servers start "preferring" customers with lower latency due to re-transmits happening much quicker.
Geesus, that's on your 1Gbps account?

I imagine they are using application acceleration, I am still testing via LTE but the performance seems much worse. Which network are you testing with?
As long as the throughput is 10mb then there will be no buffering which has been my experience on LTE.

My experience has been with 20mb ADSL for the last 5 years no matter the ISP, RD speed = 2mb during peak. Buffer buffer, switch hot-spot to my iphone, buffering stops because throughput increases to what it needs to stream, on the same link. At the same time I'll do speedtest to london or new york and would get normal ping and speed on adsl, but RD just sits at 2mb and stays there.

Because Vodacom 3G/RAIN LTE always worked, I've had high hopes of getting the same performance when my fiber is installed in 3 weeks.

@Henrico101 Try this:

net_maxroutable 1000

default is 1200

@jvrs - Thank you for the reply man, wanted to test it thoroughly before i post feedback, did like 6 hours of total game play, issue persisted. Seems I'll just have packet loss for life as Cool Ideas just can't help me.

Maybe it's the line, idk.

Signed up with CI at the beginning of the month for my account to be activated at month end.
Was that a mistake with BF and CM coming up?

Nah, CI customers have just become spoilt brats. I include myself in that category btw. We expect a certain level of performance and throw our toys out the cot when we don't get it... I tried VOX for about a month last year and they were a good 20% behind CI...
