Nah, CI customers have just become spoilt brats. I include myself in that category btw. We expect a certain level of performance and throw our toys out the cot when we don't get it... I tried VOX for about a month last year and they were a good 20% behind CI...

Are you sure that they were 20% behind CI in terms of performance and not service? Because 2 people that I’v tested RD who are with VOX have zero issues streaming any file size on RD during peak time.

Arg, our line looks to have gone down at around 09:00 yesterday, I rebooted our modem and WiFi router when I got home which restored connectivity but performance is abysmal  Any known issues in the Parkhurst area? I saw there were some issues reported in Dunkeld and Craighall.

On this real-debrid issue. Not using the service myself but did look into it a bit. Looks like they hosted on a network called dstorage, in Amsterdam (although I thought it was in France because of domain name).

They have transit into HE (Hurricane Electric) through OpenTransit, and Cogent at the very least.
They also peer at AMS-IX.

Now I wonder, anyone here tested real-debrid on TelkomSA ISP or any other SAIX based ISP?
The reason I ask, SAIX peers at AMS-IX and that is the shortest traceroute I could find to real-debrid.

Code:
tpr-route-server>traceroute 30.download.real-debrid.com
Translating "30.download.real-debrid.com"...domain server (196.43.45.190) (196.43.50.190)

Translating "30.download.real-debrid.com"...domain server (196.43.45.190) [OK]

Type escape sequence to abort.
Tracing the route to 30.download.real-debrid.com (5.39.226.1)

  1 tpr-ip-esr-1-fe-1-0-3.telkom-ipnet.co.za (196.25.9.45) 0 msec 0 msec 0 msec
  2 ams-ip-hsll-1-gig-7-1-0.telkom-ipnet.co.za (196.43.9.90) 188 msec 184 msec 188 msec
  3 ams-ix.dstorage.fr (80.249.210.41) [AS 1200] 188 msec 188 msec 188 msec
  4 30.download.real-debrid.com (5.39.226.1) [AS 23456] 180 msec 180 msec 180 msec

@PBCool maybe something to consider for future expansion.

Definitely. A year ago though hey. With CI current issues they might be on a par now...

I made a lot of noise re performance at the time, with VOX and they actually made a serious attempt to assist me. One thing they never asked me to do was an iperf test. Had they, they may have diagnosed the packet loss issue effecting my line. I reckon this issue has been there since day one... I may of course be totally wrong but I have never, never got anything remotely better than 20Mbps on an international speed test. Dropbox has never, and I mean never uploaded at better than around 20Mbps. It was the primary reason I gave CI a break a year ago. It was no better on VOX...

HE peers at AMS-IX and I doubt they would have capacity issues on that path. If we test from London on those same test links we get 1Gbps of throughput over the HE transit.

Server has a 1Gbps interface remember the TCP scaling limit on a single thread.
You know I'm very skeptical of this TCP scaling limit you keep talking of, primarily cause I have no fcking idea how it works and because it is standing in the way of my fun.

I will add though, that speed tests done on my Android based smartphone produce far better results than on wired Windows based pc, particularly in the much maligned upload arena.

This still doesn't explain packet loss and why some of your customers are able to upload to Dropbox at speeds in excess of 7MB/s where I can barely manage a paltry 2MB/s...

We could turnup AMS-IX quite easily using Eassy which looking at that latency is probably the case. But it would in theory be the same as picking it up from London

I know RD has 39 Servers - all content is streamed off of a URL staring with

https://<servernumber>.rdeb.io/d/<random number>/<movie file name>

5.39.226.x

Taking a stab in the dark here, but :

Is there no way that CI can maybe route the above in bold over the shortest path to 5.39.226.x ?

Correct Linux manages the scaling much better hence Android doing better, Microsoft is rebuilding their stack to improve this with their next release I believe.

Think of it as the payload section on a TCP frame, a packet goes across a link then comes back then scales to a larger size goes across again and if the whole payload made it, it would continue to scale up until the whole payload wouldn't make it. It would then scale down then back up etc.

So if you have loss on the last mile on lower latency it's not as noticed because TCP and have the packet resent in such a short time, over higher latency it has an exponential effect on performance.

It would route over the shortest path natively.

What’s up with this I just got a email from CIsP confirming my cancellation ? I did no such thing. Was this an error in the system somewhere @PBCool [Ticket ID: COOL-20181116-174844] Cancellation request

Hi @PBCool

I signed up on Century City Connect at the beginning of week. Yesterday they were here connecting my apartment up with my own router. Is there anything else I must do now? Whats the normal waiting period before be up and running with my connection.

Thanks:)

Mine took about 1 hr and then i was up and running after they came to install the ONT . . .call CISP and give them your "B" number ( which they - your FLP - should have given you ) - not sure if this is an openserve only thing ..... i had to provide this to CISP.

I dont have a ONT. Just a port in my room which runs to my router.

Im pretty sure all that other fibre connections are on the ground floor of my building. Then runs up into each individual apartment.

I dunno lol.
