Don’t have an Ethernet connection at the moment. Will have to test later but something definitely has happened if I would always get the full 200/200 on wireless and now not.

Could be someone using a microwave nearby or something. WiFi tests can never be used to diagnose ISP level issues.

Could even be another device on the networking chugging. Test with cable with an idle network and report back.

Also remember it could be the remote server too, test local and international

Nothing in my environment has changed.

Wireless as a medium is dynamic, so if a neighbor plugs in a repeater this can have a negative effect on your wireless network. Or microwave etc as mentioned. Cable tests are the only ones accepted and it would be a line fault if anything.

This thread is way too "Cool" to be slowly moving down Page2 of my Browser... Back to Page1 pls.

I got a complaint. I am on coolideas 100/10 and my connection is too stable. What gives? :)

I can highly recommend a move to Afrihost. that will give you a nice unstable connection. They are also much better at throttling than Cool Ideas :o

Our burst capacity is back to normal FYI.

Is there a reason why the international latency went up by 20-30ms to most destinations? i noticed it about a week ago or more.

We were testing capacity for a few ranges via one of the carriers, which is probably why. PM me your IP.

PBCool I guess this is really my only "complaint". I also noticed that my ping to my one remote newyork server went up to 256ms whereas my california server is also at 256ms. Before the ping increase the newyork host was sitting around 213ms and the california host around 235ms.

Anything fancy you need from me to get the ping back down or is it a network wide change that will affect me permanently ?

To speed up the process I send you pm with my IP.

Hi John, yes Cape Town seems to be routing via a slighly higher latency cable system, so this would be either SAT3 or Seacom, I have logged it with upstream to enquire why this may be.

Its definitely a very recent change. If its just temporary that would be great seeing that just over a week ago this was not the case. Would be really helpful to get back on the lower latency route as it were before. :)

edit: small correction, newyork ping from 213ms to 256ms and california ping from 238ms to 288ms.

@PBCool, is there a chance that Cape Town will eventually get the same setup as Gauteng?

What I mean is, Cape Town is going through eNetworks and Liquidtelecom for local/international where as Gauteng seems to go through your own backhaul to London and IS for local transit (ignoring the local peering at both points).

Dont think I am a fan of the current transit situation in Cape Town :(
