It's not the blame game it is simply a process in narrowing down what your issue is.
Given you all the info already.
Support says its Octotel outage / Octotel working in the area
It just went from bad to worse.

Without knowing how this stuff works in detail I cannot be sure who to grind.

Also been having some issue lately. 50/50 package

as much as I hate Telscum/OpenServe, I have to admit that I have not had a single problem with them on Fibre. There has been 2 occasions of bad latency between CISP and OpenServe, which was usually resolved within a week.
Otherwise it is full speed all day every day. Streaming works 100% on all platforms.

Even now, on a 20/10 line I'm watching 2 twitch streams at 1080P flawlessly.

No Telkom/Openserve fibre here.. so I am screwed.
I sat long and hard and thought about this:
The worst of the issues started the moment I requested an upgrade to 100/25. Basically CISP had to raise an escalation to get Octotel to do it, and when they did it, I enjoyed 1 1/2 hours of 100/25 and then it turned to custard.

I think the best option right now is for them to downgrade me back to what I had, because its clearly obvious that as per usual South African Business Mentality(TM) they are over-subscribed on 100Mbit connections, and then I will wing it on 20/20Mbit until another provider comes along or until I can get VDSL installed with Telkom.

Its just impossible to be optimistic in this country that we will ever see decent internet in my lifetime.

I doubt you are going to get telkom to install VDSL though, not when you have fibre available and they trying to phase out VDSL. But hey, worth a shot.

There is a landline in this house, there was ADSL here until 31/10/18 when the previous owner left. So they just need to reinstall. I am going to ask Telkom tomorrow.

Indeed, and imagine how bad it is, considering I've been with CISP for less than a MONTH and I am gatvol.
We will get it sorted for you, you have sent a one way iperf I need the correct tests please. Will PM you.

One thing I can't complain about is that Paul is still here on the forums. I remember Gian from AH tried it and he stopped it right quick. I have to commend PBcool, he's still here. Not only that but he was here at 10PM last night during the holidays, that's a level of dedication I haven't seen from any ISP.

@PBCool Twitch has been flawless tonight. Has Octotel made a change or did everyone stop using the internet again?

True that, I am not disputing it.

That's because some of us have had to use backup connections..

It shows Paul takes his company seriously. He's personally interacting with his customers. Let alone doing it during non-work hours over the holiday season. Its something I respect massively.

Octotel I have no idea what type of company they are. I have very little actual interaction with them so I have no idea how they operate but because Paul is open here on the forums and communicates with us I at least have faith in him.

Yeah - have to say - credit where it's due. He doesn't have to, yet he does, so kudos to him !

yeah, Octofail is an FISP that appeared out of nowhere, probably some clever ex-electrician who wanted to make a quick buck. Judging by their amateurish website, I guess I only have myself to blame.

It just means then I have no business being a client of CISP then, because this is not going to end well. I can fully appreciate and understand that CISP is a good ISP but they cannot force or put Octofail into a position where they either deliver or pay penalties.

If I was CISP I'd be really taking the fibre ISP to task right now... I'd ensure the SLAs are signed and penalty clauses exist.

I have to back you up on this. For the last 2 weeks, I've been having a constant issue trying to access my companies network from home. From CISP, I could not connect but on testing, we found that we could connect on any other network provider. Naturally, you start suspecting that CISP has the issue but PBCool helped us sort this out today with our network guys. The issue was that the same IP range that CISP connected from was a reserved IP range on my companies network which caused a conflict and prevented us from vpn'ing in. This had nothing to do with CISP and yet we had PB troubleshoot this and personally attend to it.

This is why CISP has consistently been rated as one of the top ISP's on mybroadband.

OK cool, I understand. From now on I won't blame them.
