Who's your fibre provider again?

Just so I know who not to go with.
Netstream, they are absolutely useless. I had the exact same issue last December where I was without internet for 5 days.
Unfortunately our complex decided to go with them, Vumatel's fiber is on our street but obviously can't get access to them being in a complex.

But having said that the support that I've been receiving from CISP has been really bad. The only time they followed up with Netstream was when I called them everyday to get an update. There has been close to zero communication from CISP with regards to what is going on and what is being done to get this fixed.

I have already sent in my cancellation. I do not believe you were to blame, but Octotel was and for this they will be punished heavily. I recommend you stop offering services on their FTTH until they've pulled up their socks or we can get rid of them in this area

I've suggested this before. CI should drop the bad bunch. It's ruining their good reputation and taking too much of their time.

@PBCool why not refine your offerings? You could be elite :)

Don't think it would be financially viable for CI to pick and choose who they use.

Also think your myBB users are far more critical than your average joe soap.

Octotel and Netstream.

Thanks. If I was in the situation, I would rather cut my nose and use LTE than support a fibre company that doesn't know what they are doing.

I'm a three strikes and you're out kinda guy.

It sounds like you still have one more strike.

That was kind of exactly my point. Cut the useless FTTH providers, then at least we know beforehand who sucks. This week I learnt who is useless.. Netstream and Octofail.

Lol, have you seen my iperf test results after 2 months of complaining to Vumatel/CISP?

Bad service is synonymous with SA companies, period.

This is with our AM at Vumatel, I have escalated as far as possible for this, I personally dont see any movement until the new year.

All networks have their issues, TTConnect we battled with for over a year to resolve their problems and they werent really interested. Octotel has been great up until now, so we need to give one of the largest networks in Cape Town a chance to resolve their issues.

I have also escalated this to our AM at netstream, we are pushing them to come out to you today to resolve.

Have you ever been overseas? Have you been to the US, and even Hong Kong, or perhaps Germany and used a residential broadband connection there for a couple of weeks? Probably not.

Rather naive to think that the overseas network wont ever have (or haven't ever had) any issues just because you used them for a few flawless weeks.

By that assumption/definition then my Vumatel network falls into US-Class superior A+ service.

Thanks, I'm giving you the benefit of doubt as I know you have assisted a lot of people on here to get their issues resolved.
But you seriously need to get your support staff to be more proactive and to not wait for a client to ask what is going on.

I am told ETA is 1hr.

Its not naive. I just see them getting what they pay for, and you obviously get what you pay for too. I just got scammed again that's all.

I thought long and hard about this, however I feel compelled to pass on what I consider closing thoughts on the matter:

1. I honestly expected more. Sorry but its supposed to be optical fibre link, supposed to be superior to radio or copper. I have worked with SDH/SONET and many other forms of carrier and/or ISP grade types of links in my career. Packet loss on optical... PUH-LEASE.. what kind of CRAP nonsense is this?

2. There are problems, within 2 weeks post installation. Not even Telkom SA are that bad with ADSL. I have had ADSL for over a decade. I was an early adopter back in the early 2000s. I only ever had one such occurence and they fixed it within 2 days, and I had that line for 3 years until we sold the house. That thing rocked. Oh and yes, my ADSL line at that address was installed over the festive season. The fault occurred on the 22nd of December, they fixed it on Christmas eve.

3. So let's assume by some miracle you get Octotel to sort out their crap, and it happens. For how long is it going to stay that way? Until the next time when one of their burger-chomping minions with the bakkies drive here and break something again? Or they decide they're not making enough money because bandwidth is costing them a mint, and they decide to turn the tap half-way closed and then I have to go through the whole rigmarole again of iperf tests and bullshit to prove that my side isn't the problem. Meanwhile I have to put up with stuff not streaming, not being able to telecon to the office, etc..

@PBCool Any idea why I am having less than optimal international speeds? Frogfoot, BFN, 20/20. Also getting constant buffering on Twitch, but youtube is fine.
