Congestion in the evenings in Southern Suburbs, Cape Town is getting really tiresome. I can keep my gaming latency down using a VPN which seems to have a stable ping, but Origin/B.net downloads, hell any downloads, and browsing in general is like being back on ADSL.

If it is Octotel, more pressure needs to be put on them, like the Blouberg issue. Really frustrating, especially when I log on in the morning and see how it's supposed to perform.

mine is

another user with download issues is 154.0.0.122 ... so i think we both on the same box, he is on TT connect

A friend with cool ideas on openserve and zero issues is on 154.0.5.xxx so he is on a different box alltogether ...

edit: and those with perfect speeds can you also post this ...

Hi Stefan



Those values from the speed test you have conducted are all healthy.



International sites in India, UK, USA and China will have significant drops in speed based on their geographical placements from you.



There's not much we can do to increase these latency times as you and all ISP's are at the mercy of the undersea cabling (Seacom, SACS, WACS etc . .) and the numerous routers (hops) along the way.

If latency was the cause, surely your upload and download speeds should be the same if you're on a 20/20 line.

No point in having anything faster than 10Mbps in South Africa then if you use single threaded...funny how my Cell C LTE (which is **** in bloem in general) gives me 10Mbps single threaded speeds.

Yip, it's very confusing. I tested my MTN LTE to testmy.net and bandwidthplace.com and I was basically maxing the line out, local speedtest was showing 30Mbps and I was getting 29Mbps on both tests!! I mean WTF??!!

For me it comes back to the capped vs uncapped argument once again. Uncapped never have and never will perform on a par with a decent capped account... At least that has been my experience...

Damn, seems like you really hated Telkom a lot if you even removed the cabling. It's a sad day when one realizes that the older technology performed much better than newer technology.

Only issue I had for years was the upload speed - I have quite a few camera's around the property, and it's useful being able to view them all remotely at the same time.
