What makes you think this is a routing issue?

Before yesterday, I normally got 150-160 ping. Then either late Friday night or early Saturday morning, this became normal.

Lol.png

Pings that were 150-160 bounced up to 190-200. As I pointed out in my other post, users from the UK are also having similar problems.

https://boards.euw.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/help-support-en/tmvogPAO-uk-euw-ping-issues

So I can only assume that CI routes their traffic from the UK then to Amsterdam, whereas WTFast gives me a more direct route to Amsterdam.

Lol Routing problem.png

This is a possible explanation as to why I am experiencing the exact same issue as dozens of other UK players.

If this is not the case then that's fine, but I am looking at all possibilities here. I am busy going through the motions with Riot Support as well. I'll let you know if anything they suggest fixes things, but WTFast fixes a problem that didn't exist until yesterday for me.

Do you have that particular server IP for me?

Do you have that particular server IP for me?

So this is where it gets weird... the public facing IPs that Riot provides on their forums and on Reddit return the usual ping. I got the IPs from this reddit thread, and pings to the EU West server return normal.

Pinging 104.160.141.3 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 104.160.141.3: bytes=32 time=160ms TTL=56
Reply from 104.160.141.3: bytes=32 time=155ms TTL=56
Reply from 104.160.141.3: bytes=32 time=156ms TTL=56
Reply from 104.160.141.3: bytes=32 time=157ms TTL=56

Riot support says things are looking clear their side, and are having me test some settings on my PC. Once I've tried absolutely everything they're suggested maybe they'll be open to the idea that there is something wrong with the routing their side, but I still have to go through their support checks.

The other thing is that ping to other games are normal. Only other game I can test with at the moment is Apex Legends, but things are fine in terms of latency, even to Amsterdam.

I'm also reaching out to you guys so that I can figure out exactly where this problem lies. I'm pretty sure it's with Riot, but they're insisting its not at this point.

Maybe they released a mini-update that I missed and it's messed up their client, but I'll find out soon enough.

@zolly You are going to need to capture the IP of the serve with netlimiter or something like that because the IP given in the forum also gives me like 171ms but in game is 189ms so my guess it's a different server or location. Probably hosted in France.

@PBCool Well I'll be damned. Disabling IPv6, changing to Google's DNS servers and flushing my DNS fixed things.

Just so weird that I've been running with default settings forever, and now it chooses to do this. Thanks for the responses @PBCool. Edit. Or it may be related to the on-going resolution of a cable break between the UK and Amsterdam...

Hey guys,

conspiracy theories aside, the reason for this is a lot less exciting - there's an undersea network cable from London to Amsterdam having problems, which is resulting in sub-optimal routing from the UK to Amsterdam.

This is outside of our control but we are in touch with the cable provider who are providing us regular updates. Currently the estimated fix date is tomorrow all going well, but that's subject to change depending on weather and how testing goes once they've repaired the cable.

At this time there's not a huge amount we can do until that is fixed. We've been checking out some alternate routing but so far it hasn't provided much in the way of relief :-(

The next issue I need resolved is the timeouts on my connection, but I'm working with your official support channels on that now.

That problem may lie with Octotel, so I'm just going to send all the information I have here so you guys have it all associated with one ticket.

That's rather strange, it would be best to check which IP you are connecting to which can give us something to trace.

Wynand has suggested I connect directly to the Octotel box, just in case the router is the problem. People using the internet at the moment so will do that when I have a chance.

I love how CI can make twitch streaming work fine during the day or early AM, but come evening and the entire thing dies, over and over and over. Useless.

Just tested twitch on a 10Mbps line with Openserve and Cool ideas and it works fine.
