Octotel are aware of the packetloss issues. They are going to be doing emergency maintenance at 4am (25th April) to try alleviate the issues during peak hours.

Maintenance is not the solution, they actually need to fix stuff instead of just playing musical chairs with equipment in a fine balancing act.

But lets see what tomorrow brings us, maybe a week of better internet, then it all falls apart again.

I unfortunately can't provide more information but I can say they have been working on a longterm solution which should be ready soon. No ETA that I can say though :whistling:

Good! I just hope "soon" is not the normal soon that could mean anything up to a few years...

If you're on Octotel there's large amounts of packet loss on their network right now for unknown reasons, even local (within Cape Town) is nearing 10% loss for me. As to why CISP is silent on the matter I don't know.

Yep I realise, but it’s just getting worse now, and nobody is doing anything. I’m not exaggerating when I say my line is useless. No gaming, no streaming, no downloading. I can pretty much just refresh gmail. The 200/200 package costs quite a premium to be completely unusable for a quarter of the day. I don’t really care whose fault it is anymore, I know who I pay each month.

I really feel sorry for you SS Octotel people now. At least upload packetloss is not too bad unless you gaming. But download loss like that, I would be breaking things by now.

It is really weird how my line (Cape Gate) is behaving exactly the opposite in terms of packetloss exactly at the same time.

How dodgy must your network be to behave like this?

Placing bets now on them using the previous excuse "We found rogue UDP traffic on our network". Translated" "We have rubbish equipment that does random things we are not aware of as we dont work after hours and dont have monitoring in place."

You don't know packet loss until you've lived in Southern Suburbs with Octotel.

Some single thread results for you.

My biggest problem with this is the use of the words “try” and “alleviate”. I guess it’s better than nothing. Thanks for the heads up though, appreciated.

I don't work for them so I can't use words like "will fix" and "resolve".

Will do my best to help people where I can ;)

This is the feedback I received from the Octotel Ops manager this afternoon too. A CBD circuit failed over to backup, causing congestion in areas such as Kenilworth, Claremont etc.

Octotel has indicated as well, that they are working on changing backhauls, moving aggregation switches to alleviate pressure on the network.

Most of the big ISP's will also be moving to yet another switch fabric on the 6th of May, but tending to backhaul infrastructure is taking priority at the moment.

It does seem that months of bitching and escalating is finally ending in restructuring.

And what about us Cape Gate people? Same problem, just the other way around.

Edit: What is a "CBD circuit" ?

I don't know their network topology, but from the feedback I received failover to a backup path caused congestion on a specific switch port in Teraco Rondebosch. Which may, or may not be connected to other suburbs as well...

Who knows.

I hope so, given the correlation, I hope it is the cause.

Edit: My download speeds from EU have been above average during this time. I also hope it stays that way.

Thinking of signing up with Cool Ideas due to the SACS cable to South America, I am currently with Bitco. Can someone please post there results from pubgserverping.com? My results from Bitco attached as comparison.

The connection via SACs is currently not live. It was enabled for a short while, but was disabled due to lack of infrastructure South America side. Now that the data center or whatever it was is now live in S America, that might soon change.

When it was live, I got the same ping as I did to London as Sao Paulo.
