That's actually good international, going to do a speedtest in a moment, maybe they fixed international? That loss is insane though.

EDIT:
Maybe that's what is stopping high international speeds for me?
Can barely manage 24Mbps down, less than a quarter of line speed.

try enabling qos, i find it helps when there are many users.

its all these 1gig lines, backhaul hasnt kept up imho.
 
FYI I've left my current ISP for CISP.

Quite frankly my current ISP halved my line speed because the kids watched "The Secret Life of Pets" one too many times over the long weekend! Well they can take their AUP and shove it up their Netflix-throttling ass.

I'm still wondering why most people have more than even 100 meg. Unless it's for work I have no idea what you want that kind of bandwidth for.

Any idea what is going on with Netstream in the north of JHB? My internet has been down since this morning from 9 and your call centre is not receiving any updates from them. They just saying that it is a widespread outage?

We haven't received any further comms from Netstream unfortunately.
 
I'm having authentication issues. All is good on the ONT so the line is fine, but can't connect to CISP...

Exactly, waste of money in most cases and is just about having the max speed possible as a "why not?". I'd like to see a 1 month average bandwidth report from a 1Gbps user and see if it's even 500Mbps.

We're a family of 4 and do heavy streaming so I started with a 100Mbps line, but after setting up PRTG Network Monitor and collecting stats from my Ubiquiti AP via SNMP I saw that we were hitting a max of 20Mbps with a 4K Netflix stream as well as two 1080p streams, with some general browsing in between. The only time I could max out the line was when running Microsoft / Mac updates or doing a PS4 download. Have since downgraded to a 50Mbps line which is only R100 per month cheaper, but makes no sense having all that bandwidth if I'm only using 20% of it under normal conditions.

I might be wrong though, maybe some people really do use 1Gbps to it's full potential...

I like waiting half as long for steam downloads, and usually do max the line as 2/3 PC's download the same updates concurrently.
I'd like 200, but not worth the price difference for us. I think we do at least max the line out once a day, but not that extreme. Normal "peak", consistent usage is probably around 30-40Mbps as 3/4 streams running.

It's a nice to have, and for some being able to download a large file quickly is worth it, instead of 80 seconds for a gig, you wait 8 seconds, e.g. shadow of war was about 120GB download, so near 3 hours download, on 1Gbps it's 16 minutes.

Then video editors that work from home, that's a large amount of content to move around, etc.
