Its not naive. I just see them getting what they pay for, and you obviously get what you pay for too. I just got scammed again that's all.
If you're referring to networks that are established and been around for decades, including Telkoms then sure. I have used such connections all over the world and they aren't without issue. These are still very new deployments for South Africa and even African terms, so there are bound to be stumbling blocks. We are on 30+ networks all finding their feet. The network we have had the least issues with is Vumatel Trenched which was an "off the shelf" product purchased from a Swedish company. But even they have had congestion issues in the past.

OK I'll come back in 5 years when they've hopefully learnt how to run a proper business.

2. There are problems, within 2 weeks post installation. Not even Telkom SA are that bad with ADSL. I have had ADSL for over a decade. I was an early adopter back in the early 2000s. I only ever had one such occurence and they fixed it within 2 days, and I had that line for 3 years until we sold the house. That thing rocked. Oh and yes, my ADSL line at that address was installed over the festive season. The fault occurred on the 22nd of December, they fixed it on Christmas eve.

My ADSL line was down last year over December and this year January for 6 weeks before Telkom technicians came out. Telkom is garbage.

That's not the point, the point is all networks have growing pains and are usually quite quick to resolve.

How quick is quite quick? Or how long is a piece of string? Which CEO is putting his Lamborghini before his business?

It's got nothing to do with greed, Octotel have no reason to skimp on these kinds of things. It's usually something they just aren't aware of and need feedback to assist in resolving.

We are 1/10th the size of Octofail and we monitor it all... We have slack alerts and all kinds of things when stuff gets congested we know before it becomes a problem.

I believe you are back online?
Yes thank you very much. The port that I'm connected to blew so he replaced it and I'm back online.

I was hoping it was the culprit in my slow international speeds but unfortunately it was not and I'm still stuck with 0.6Mbps download. I showed it to the technician and he said it's definitely congestion but as far as he is aware there is no congestion on Netstream network. So this is something that will need to be taken further with them in the new year.

This is with our AM at Vumatel, I have escalated as far as possible for this, I personally dont see any movement until the new year.

Midmorning on a saturday?

Yeah I know it's crazy. I dunno where the issue is but there is definitely an issue. I've been struggling with this since Nov on international I get 0.6Mbps download and 17Mbps on upload. This is on a 20/20 line. On local I get full line speed results. It baffles my mind and there is packet loss on the Netstream network which I would assume is the reason for the poor international speeds.

Wow, lots of people having issues on some networks I see. Must say still 100% happy on Frogfoot with CISP, I never have any streaming issues at all, and there is a LOT of streaming in my house.

Thanks CISP, definitely still my number 1 ISP.

Having some odd problems here - I can't access https://imgur.com/ but I can access other international sites fine. On vumatel aerial in morningside, johannesburg - not sure what is up. There are some other sites with similar issues.

I tried getting some files from https://mirror.chpc.utah.edu/ and it worked fine.

I’ve been having issues with international downloading on my 100/10 vumatel trenched line since I joined CI this week. I haven’t exceed 1.5 Mbps on Steam, Origin or torrents since I joined. Streaming (youtube & netflix) seems to be working great. I’ll do some serious testing in the new year, but anyone else experiencing the same issue? I’m not getting what I’m paying for atm.

@PBCool Also experiencing issues with Vuma Aerial in Atholl since about 2PM today.
Certain sites (both local & international)/apps are completely unresponsive yet on cellular data, they work perfectly.

I’ve checked with an Ethernet cable and over Wi-Fi and same problem persists...

Sun 16 Dec
Placed a new online order with Cool Ideas for 10/5 uncapped Openserve fibre

Mon 17 Dec
public holiday

Tues 18 Dec
Openserve technician called to install fibre, met at agreed time. They did a quick and neat job pulling in the fibre from the street pole to the pole in the property and into the home via the ceiling.
Easily installed the Huawei Termination Point box and Nokia ONT unit.
I called Cool Ideas and let them know the installation was complete. They then despatched the router.
(Still waiting for the router)

Wed 19 Dec
I called Cool Ideas for the account credentials, configured and connected my Huawei B315 to the Nokia ONT unit.
Connected successfully.

Amazed with the very quick service.

Hoping the router I receive will improve speeds. Or is this what it is?

Same here. Vumatel Aerial Northriding. CISP 200/200. Some international sites just dead. For example www.smartdnsproxy.com which I use as proxy for Netflix/Hulu is down. Guess no streaming tonight. Can we look into this @PBCool ?
