what's going on with Cool Ideas now

You replying to the past few days comments? Or do you also have a problem? Please state Network and maybe a speed test?

I luckily have Rain as backup (19 hours) since Cool Ideas on Metrofibre have been giving issues (50/50 package).

Yes when LTE out performs fibre there are issues..

Last night was simply the worst experience ever... and it’s clearly a capacity issue or Octotel being a wet nappy about their “precious expensive bandwidth”

It is clearly too many people on the network... amazing how it suddenly starts improving when people head to bed.

So CISP clearly have capacity... whereas Octotel.... not.
So I am screwed, I can either wait a few months and suffer, with no guarantee this will ever be resolved or I can make another plan and get ADSL.
Tough choice to be made.

My take on all of this is that my fibre ISP is one of those that are really worried about the bottom line and will not sort this out unless pushed into a corner e.g. by being sued or whatever.
Octotel don’t care.. they just don’t they just in it for the money

3G out performs mine.

I'm debating doing this myself too. Octotel clearly either can't or don't care to provide usable internet in the evenings so time to look at backups. My hope is everyone in my area has buggered off to Octotel so maybe the Telkom copper lines are free now.

Here is my plan of action since I have reasonable certainty who is to blame:
I am going to try and get info out of Octotel, via @PBCool or @TheRoDent and see what the state of play is, and whether Octotel are just playing games or if they are going to sort this problem out, and what timeline we are looking at for resolution to this problem. Obviously they can't even plan properly, hence we sit with this problem, or they don't give a toss.

Based on that answer, I will decide to get the ADSL line up or to get a new Telkom LTE deal.
Luckily, both options work for me, and I have a phone line here.
But I am no longer going to pussyfoot here. I think Octotel are bunch of arseholes, and my feelings about them being an ex-PABX installer with big aspirations still hold true.
If they couldn't foresee this happening, how is the future looking? Or are they going to pull an OpenWeb on us?

Downgrading to the slowest cheapest service not an option until the issues gets resolved. Maybe CISP can negotiate a discount due to poor service? I will be raging if I had to pay full price but getting such slow speeds compared to what you pay for. Obviously it's not a dedicated fibre line but still 3Mbps and paying for 100Mbps is just poor.

I have also thought about telling CISP to put me on the cheapest package until they sort Octotel out, if ever.
But yes I am getting pressure from my wife for paying a grand a month for KAK internet.
To be very honest here, what I experienced last night was even worse than what MWEB/CrystalWeb/NexusISP did to me.

That or canceling and paying setup fees again a few months later. One good thing Telkom had as an operator/ISP is a credit note on your invoice for downtime once you logged issues with them.

Yeah but this is Octotel bro... they are not Telkom. They won't give you air to breathe if it was up to them. All they care about is how much money they can make, even if they sell you a faulty product.
This is the reason why they insulate themselves and hide behind Internet Service Providers. They're diabolical... and it pains me to see how a good ISP gets dragged through the pigsty because of them.

Have you guys not got any other FLP in the area to move to?

Please let me know if anything comes of this. I'm desperate for any feedback as to wtf is going on.

I can't speak for the others but I personally don't. I don't think I live in a affluent area to justify multiple FLPs. Its actually funny to watch Vumatel skirt around and fit in all the places Octotel haven't covered like Cape Town is a big jigsaw puzzle.

Was on Openserve (with Afrihost 400GB) for 2 years. Pretty stable. No issues but streaming (Showmax and Netflix) started to chow through my data.

So when we got Metrofibre activated in our complex Coolideas looked like the obvious choice. Joined on 1 October and for same money as Openserve was a no brainer. Till about a week ago I was pretty happy.

But then lightning literally took out my whole network. After replacing the ONT and router etc, problems started. Maybe coincidence, maybe not. Using mikrotik for PPPoe and know it is setup correctly.

But past week even during day time, many overseas sites don't resolve. Speed test overseas are horrible (50/50 package).

I have Rain on Huawei 618 router also plugged in to mikrotik. www.ubnt.com / www.ui.com does not resolve (err timeout) on Coolideas / Metro. Then I switch to Rain (change default route / distance away from Metro to Rain) and BAM loads in milliseconds.

So I am thinking about going back to Openserve (Supersonic uncapped? Or Maybe Supersonic on Metrofibre). But will give @PBCool and @TheRoDent the benefit of first "fixing" Octotel issues and then seeing what is up with my Metrofibre line / routing (line is fine -21.6dB)...

This thread is a wonderful knowledge base (learned a lot). I do appreciate the direct and honest feedback Coolideas give. But yes since the beginning of 2019 things are not at the same standard I have been used to.

Phoning CI and getting the same message "We are aware of issues affecting our users" 2 days in a row.. Does not install confidence (message removed today).

Strange local everything flies, but overseas during non peak times I am just having issues opening normal web pages (not cached / CDN stuff) :(

Waiting for a senior network engineer to get in contact / sort my issue out (according to the open case).

Here's hoping..

Here's a silly little site, that has extreme difficulty in loading on a CISP 100/25 line (Octotel)
https://www.idwpublishing.com/product-category/sonic-the-hedgehog/sonic-the-hedgehog-ongoing/
Not acceptable, its just simply not acceptable that the small images on that site load so slowly the page layout breaks.

Come 11:30pm and these issues magically disappear, until the next day, to return
This is like loadshedding, internet style.

Those images are not small. Almost 30MB for that page load...

Tried on mine quick, takes about 20 seconds for that page to fully load on CISP 100/100, about 5 seconds when switching to Vodacom LTE.
Similar result on Telkom Mobile LTE
On my side, that page took 7 1/2 minutes to load on my 100/25... I mean its like taking a step back to the 1990s

Also loaded within seconds on my Metrofibre 50/50 CoolIdeas account. Whereas www.ubnt.ccom never loads :( "ever"... Until I switch to Rain LTE and it loads instantly (using mikrotik and just change the distance to prefer my RAIN link...)
