Cool Ideas Fixed 5G/4G Feedback Thread

Can one easily upgrade to a higher let's say from 300GB FUP to 450GB FUP on MTN, or do you need a new SIM Card delivered then?

HI there, yes you can just upgrade, you would not need a new Sim card
If going with the Vodacom option, can a Huawei B535-932 router be used? The router is locked to the Vodacom network and was previously used with a contract that expired, and we could keep the router.

Unfortunately this router is not supported, as its not a 5G router.
It may still work, as Vodacom is not enforcing hardware locks as yet, but it may also be locked to 4G.

I would not recommend using this router, however here is the supported router list:

We do also have a promotion on our 5G routers, so it might be something you would be interested in?

@joshuatree: I have tested my Cool Ideas Vodacom SIM in an unlocked 4G Huawei B618s-22d (from Rain) and it does work at a greatly reduced speed. I have also tested that it works in a 4G phone. I unfortunately don't have any locked Vodacom devices to test.

Take a look at the Vodacom coverage map to get a better idea about the 4G/5G performance you can expect. I only have Vodacom 5G Mobile coverage (no Business 5G or any of the 10, 20, 30 or 50Mbps Home 4G coverage) in my suburb. In some of the tests that I did on my CI/Voda SIM I could get up to 20Mbps downloads on 4G on my 4G phone and up to 280Mbps on 5G using my G5TS.

Getting a ZTE G5TS for R750 is a steal (I paid R1500 for mine) and is well worth the price for the speed increase. You should hopefully get many years of reliable service from this router.
