Home capped - these updates run slow at any time of day even after hours.

Contact support on that then. My windows updates run great if I start them off around 22:30 - maybe 60% line speed and around midnight they go full speed. I've tested this on my home capped.

Definitely contact their live support and have them investigate.

Massive latency this morning, local and international. Seem to be getting similar results on my WA account too but Mweb backup is all smooth. An IS problem?

A PSA:
The Film and Publications Board have set today as the deadline for public comment on their current grasping to control the Internet

It is this sort of nonsense that hinders the enjoyment of all of the fruit of Internet services in South Africa - Apple and Google and Netflix will play along up to a point and then simply withdraw from SA. The attitude underlying this legislation seeks to force ISPs become nannies rather than facilitators of access

A bit of a sidenote - the Policy really is Bullshit as the proponents of the Policy have no regard for truth in their agenda

Anyone on home capped experiencing heavy NNTP shaping atm? Currently getting between 0 and 6kB/s.

They did this in the UK and across Europe....

The ISPs pushed back there too, but once the legislation hit, they had to comply unfortunately.

Just wait until people here start getting legal letters from major international film companies asking them for payment for watching a film that they downloaded, etc..... oh, it will be so much "fun" :P

most jurisdictions have some sort of content law

we have in this country already got content laws and ECTA covers the ground which is pertinent here - if anything the take down process needs to have better mechanisms for somebody who has had their rights infringed by a wrongful take down to secure relief

For what it is worth Crystal Web complies fully and swiftly with all lawful state activity and fully embraces SA's constitutional democracy. It is our constitution from which state power flows and our constitution which gives individuals (and groups) rights - the rights that this policy will infringe.

almost 4 hours later, account is still stuffed ........

echoes of AH responses now :(

So will a VPN bypass this new BS legislation or are we not so lucky?

in a technical sense, quite likely until VPN is criminalized ... ;)
in a legal sense not at all
but then in my view (IANAL etc ...) the policy is inherently unlawful and will not survive a legal challenge at all - for various reason CW obviously would prefer not to mount the legal challenge though

One of the things that I have conveyed - and will continue to convey to the FPB on this - is that they are claiming to have a public participation process but they've failed to actually put out an invitation for comment on the major affected forums - Youtube
the advert spots for Youtube in SA need to bring attention to what they are trying to do

Reminds me of H2G2:
It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet, stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying “Beware of the Leopard”

Having issues in Cape Town.

Apparently an issue that arose yesterday that CW staff are working on.

Download speeds on 10MB Home Premium running at 100kbps. Hopefully will be fixed by the time I get home.

Really needed to loosen up on home capped NNTP shaping lol currently getting 6kB/s during the day.

Just tested a Home Capped account in JHB for another client - peaking at 17mbps on a 20mbps line.

We'll need to run some tests with you, Can you come onto live chat Please.

Was there yesterday when I thought it could have been a issue on my side but shaun popped in and said it was a switching issue however at 12:00 it instantly goes full speed so its definitely shaping being applied. Switching to trial accounts fixes it. Like I said yesterday on live chat I fully understand shaping NNTP during work hours but 6kB/s is a bit insane, also just checked WA Capped thread and people seem to being having issues with download speeds there as well so its probably just WA having issues again.
